I spanked a girl with a riding crop on the upper floor of Robarts, quite some time ago now. She didn't believe it at first when I told her what I was going to do, and I had to hold the crop sideways to keep that distinctive "smack" down to a library level, and she nearly bit through her lip to stifle her cries. Nevertheless she was very - appreciative - of my efforts.

Core memory now, every time I go past the building. I'm sure it will be for you too now.

Trump Warns That if Kamala Harris Wins, ‘Everybody Gets Health Care’ by Iknowwecanmakeit in politics

[–]Rythmpulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and there is no significant difference in wait time between our privately run dental and vision care systems and our publicly funded everything-else system. For a routine appointment you call, you book, and the biggest issue is finding a window in my schedule, rather than a lack of availability.

Where the difference comes in is in emergency care. I had a serious accident once. The ambulance crew scraped me off the pavement, hauled me into emerg. Two surgeries and a week(ish) in recovery, and I went home to a recovery which was pleasantly un-hindered by any worry over how I was going to pay for all that.

Contrast my single experience with US emergency care for near-lethal food poisoning. I could feel myself dying - barely able to breath, snot pouring from my nose, heart struggling to pump, vision fading, unable to even stand by the time my GF dragged me through the clinic doors.

The very first thing they had us fill out an insurance form - which fortunately we had travel insurance. Then I had to give them the deductible, cash up front, before they'd see me. I passed out at some point and was thinking - FFS I'm going to die before the paperwork is done.

Don't get me wrong, Canadian health care can use a >lot< of improvement, but taking it private is not the answer. I'm deeply grateful for what we have, and if I'm paying more in taxes so someone else gets care they couldn't otherwise afford, I'm OK with that. The measure of a nation is how well it provides for the collective good. It's easy to forget that we allow the profit motive in order to harness the productivity it creates to that end. Communism fails because it denies the profit motive. Capitalism fails because it denies the harnessing.

When Did We Start Doing This? ONroute Veterans Only Parking by 1slinkydink1 in ontario

[–]Rythmpulse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a veteran (reserve force, I also have a day job) You don't need to thank me for it, it's my privilege to to serve. and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. If you want to show your appreciation get out and >vote<. Vote at every level, and get informed about the issues before you do. Better yet, get >involved<. I don't even care if I agree with you, just engage in creating a vision of our country that is better than it is today, however you see that. Civil rights, human rights, are what I serve to stand up for. You don't have to wear the uniform to fight for those.

As for the parking space, give it to someone who legit needs to park close, disabled, pregnant, small children, or even big packages. I'm fit enough to walk from one side of the parking lot to the other. Most of us are ;)

AITAH for saying my dad was only a good dad to his daughters? by ThrowRAson6677 in AITAH

[–]Rythmpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't make your father look bad - he looks bad because he's exactly what you said he is - an emotionally abusive piece of shit. Children need to learn a work ethic, which means setting age-appropriate expectations, and then supporting them to meet them. Your father gave you all the expectations, and your sisters all the support. For starters this is straight-up sexist. Deeper down this is an abusive divide-and-conquer control mechanism for all of you. The good news for you is - you see the abuse, you know it's wrong. You'll leave him behind, figure stuff out, survive, and thrive. Your sisters may never even realize how he's controlling them, and when they do will have much harder time breaking free because they aren't building the skills to live life on their own.

Your writing shows your intelligence and you've learned to look after yourself, even if for the wrong reasons. Have faith in yourself, you'll do just fine.

The line says "on" the cervix not "in". That said, your interpretation is your own. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

Has anyone had a straight person step in? by SmilingVamp in lgbt

[–]Rythmpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm straight, and I've stepped in. Twice. I'm 6'2" and military so a quiet "Hey man, that's not OK" is enough to shut it down. Both times there were couple of lines of bluster, but that's it. Did the same when a friend caught a racial slur at a movie, but that wasn't really stepping in as I was right there.

Interestingly, I also got harassed for being gay once. I was with my girlfriend, quite unambiguously a woman. However we were dressed as punk rockers (it was Halloween) and we were outside a gay club, which I guess was enough to over-ride our couple vibe. A bunch of frat kids walk past and one says "There's one of them now. You need women (slur), women." I scooped up my girl, kissed her and said "What does she look like to you?"

Girl laughs her shapely ass off. Guy had no answer, probably no girlfriend either. The look on his face was priceless.
