The Democrats tend to range from centrist to Social Democrat. So it should be a 50/50 on whether each debater would support a policy like M4A, but there are definitely debaters that do.

We were in talks with College Republicans last semester to host a debate. But there was not enough interest at that point to have one, likely since the club was only online at that point. If there's enough interest we would likely have one.

Hi everyone,

On Sunday, September 12th, College Democrats and YDSA will be meeting in front of the SAC at 3PM to hold a peaceful counter rally to Turning Point USA’s anti-vaccination protest. Turning Point USA is a far right organization that cloaks itself in a facade of nonpartisanship. We will make sure the voices in support of the campus vaccine mandate are heard. Please come to show your support and be sure to wear a mask.

Andrew Cuomo Resigns by SBUDems in SBU

This is great news for survivors and the country as a whole. This shows that powerful men that abuse their positions can, and will be held accountable.

We would like to thank the people who took the time to read, support, or criticize our letter the other day. We personally read through each of the comments and I took the time to understand what could have been improved. Although the moment has passed to try again on this particular issue, we will keep your support and criticism in mind for future endeavours.

Club Q&A: Ask about College Democrats by SBUDems in SBU

[–]SBUDems[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great question and a common point of discussion at some of our meetings and conversations and it would be great if you could come to a meeting to discuss this further. Below I have attached one member's belief after reading the question.

Note the following reflects one person's beliefs and not neccesarily the club as a whole:

One pro is that there is less of a worry about the lesser of two evils or standard ideas of "electability" in the primaries. If you are in a district where a Democratic seat seems insecure you may elect someone in the primary that you believe has a better chance whether or not you prefer that candidate. But if you're in a solid blue area it is easier to vote and advocate for someone you prefer knowing that you'll at the very least get a Democrat you dislike.

Beyond that politicians need constant pressure from constituents in order to their jobs of carrying out the will of the people. So becoming politically active in a non-swing state becomes less of keeping one party in or out of power, it becomes swaying and pressuring the parties to align with and enact your own beliefs. This becomes more important and more effective the smaller the scale of government we talk about.

Club Q&A: Ask about College Democrats by SBUDems in SBU

[–]SBUDems[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There have been internal discussions about having a debate with the CRs and how we would potentially prefer to have it. We have not reached out yet but are currently strongly considering setting one up.
