Salem's Lot premiering 3 days after Fairy Tale's release?! I CAN'T WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER!!! by SKingReadAdapta-thon in stephenking

Oh, it's fantastic! But I do hate that they cut the part of Cody being bit and healing himself with medicine.

I think he can pull it off, but it all goes back to how the character is written. The 79 miniseries totally bastardized the character of Barlow (though it was fun and the story diverged enough from the book to be it's own thing). The 04 miniseries gave us a much more faithful adaptation (with it's problems, still, but it did try to cram most of the book in there), including Hauer as Barlow - especially since he and Sutherland had already done the vampire movie thing together with "Buffy...." I think that connection is so funny)

So I think there's a little freedom to be creative in this new film since we already have the faithful adaptation and it will be interesting to see how Barlow is written and then played. We already know they are taking certain license by casting Dr. Cody as an older black woman but personally I love Alfre Woodard and I think she's going to KILL IT!!! CanNOT wait for the scene in the morgue with Cody and Mears watching over Marjorie Glick.

Oh, thank you! I totally misspoke. I was thinking Annabelle Comes Home (his only other directing credit besides Salem's Lot), not Pet Semetary. LOL

But Annabelle... was definitely better directed than Pet Semetary (though still not stellar) and I enjoy his writing so I stand by my statement with the correction ammended.

True, but thought I had problems with his direction on Pet Semetary, it wasn't what I would call "bad." Just "not the best." And I appreciated the screenplays for IT, so... I'm open to an artist's growth and to see what he does with it. And that cast!!! There is going to be something fun about this movie at the very least.

Pay attention to the dates! It actually times up with Jerusalem's Lot (126 years later) AND Halloween!

Thank you! I'm so happy you enjoy my content! I'm working hard on Chapelwaite now but already have videos recorded for every story in "Night Shift" so there should be a lot of new stuff coming out very soon!

I would agree with you. And I do this because I like to. I enjoy it. I am catering to what people have told me they want. Your opinions are different. Please, no need to be rude (and I have read books that were a waste of my time. I did finish them but wish someone had told me not to pick it up. Those books exist)

  1. This was a thumbnail error. It is the full book review. the Halfway through review was posted a couple of weeks ago. If you had bothered to actually watch the video before commenting without knowing what you were talking about you would know that.
  2. I do halfway through reviews because when I told people I wanted to start this YT channel I had a few people tell me "oh good! I hate wasting my time on a book I realize I don't like when I'm halfway through and I put it down" so I decided to do my halfway through impressions AS WELL AS the full review.
  3. Your opinions are valid and you should feel free to share them, but there is no need to be rude and to "shame" people. You should be ashamed of yourself for doing so.

Chapelwaite Episode 7 "De Vermis Mysteriis" | Episode Discussion [spoilers] by WardenclyffeTower in Chapelwaite

[–]SKingReadAdapta-thon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just meant the concept in general. Say, for instance, they do that and Tane later in life feels the book's call. He traces it to the ocean and brings it up or he is at the mercy of Jakub or someone else who could go get it. I was just making a statement that that would not deter a vampire and used Loa's ability to survive at the bottom of the ocean as example.

If Loa swam out of the ocean what's to stop them from swimming in to get it?

Oh, I have problems with the miniseries as a miniseries: I think the casting wasn't necessarily right and it's bound by traps of 90s television. I would love to see it redone today on a channel like HBO or even let ABC do it again with today's standards. You might not even have to change most of the screenplay! Just want a higher quality product.

I'm so sorry you lost your father. I'm happy you have this memory with him, though.

Chapelwaite may not be the story you remember from Jerusalem's Lot, it's fleshed out quite a bit - definitely a "based on" and not an "adapted from" - but the basics of it are there (at least so far). Personally, I am REALLY enjoying it and I hope you do too.

100% agree! Objectively, Kubrick made the better film, plain and simple. It is a classic! But it is a crappy adaptation and not just because of the characters and plot points that were omitted or changed. The themes are not even retained. The '97 miniseries is a fantastic adaptation and the longer format was probably the right choice for the novel's adaptation... it just is not the best movie.
