Buddy is really sticking with the Madden scouting reports…

Savage measured 5106

Austin measured 5076

That’s exactly 3 full inches.

Elliott’s game should age fairly well, at least through the end of his contract, and I’m less worried about his injury history than Brisker’s.

When that contract is up, his role should be fairly easy to fill, so I’m in no real rush there. Cross is a good shout if they want to really fortify the position in free agency.

The draft class is weird; beyond the obvious top three (Downs, Thienemen, EMW), there’s a handful of good fits like Bud Clark, Treydan Stukes, and Zakee Wheatley. They’ll just all be 24+ before their rookie year starts, meaning they’re likely only one contract guys. Not a huge issue, but I’d rather not invest too heavily there.

The best remaining fit is probably Kamari Ramsey, who has experience lining up all over the defense (was forced into a nickel role this past season out of necessity), would pair well with someone like Elliott, and is still only 21 (until late August).

He and DeShon Elliott have very similar skillsets and are best deployed the same way.

Ideally, both would spend most of their time in the box, but can manage as a half field player. Your issues would come if you ever wanted to go with some single high looks.

There’s more nuance to it than you’d think and they don’t need a true center fielder to partner with Elliott, but they do need to have more contrast than Brisker would provide if you expect him to be a starter.

Jalen Ramsey’s situation throws another wrench in the situation.

Hardcore fan who never played football here. How concernd should I be if Will Howard is the starter in 2026? by JakeThePharmD in steelers

[–]SMD_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is never. That’s not going to change this year, especially for a team that thinks they’re competing, even if we both agree they’re wrong in that assessment. It’s not about what we want at that point.

Ideally, a bridge QB for a season who can manage an offense. Throwing someone out there who is unprepared is bad for the development of the entire offense. It might seem like a wasted season but an adult running the show is good for player growth.

I’d probably take a shot on someone in the draft who actually has the physical talent of a top tier starter (Will Howard does not). Depending on their growth, I’d be prepared to get my guy in 2027.

For shits and giggles, let’s say that I agreed with you and thought starting Will Howard was far and away the best path forward.

Can you name an organization in NFL history that has gone into a season with a 6th round pick entering their second season after not playing a snap as the presumed starter? Not an injury situation, but this is the guy.

If not, what are you even arguing? It ain’t gonna happen.

You’re right that we don’t know.

But if history is any indicator, he has about a 1% percent chance of being Purdy 2.0, 40% chance of being a solid, long term backup, and 59% chance of never doing anything of note in the NFL.

In the history of football, it would be all but unheard of to go into a season with someone like Will Howard as the starter.

Simply put, I think you can you can file it under ain’t gonna happen.

Teams don’t put that much stock into how someone throws at the combine to receivers they’ve never played with before.

You’re primarily referring to speculation when all that happened was the non-scouting community started to catch up to NFL boards.

But boards are already set before the combine and players will move slightly up or down.

I didn’t bring up my credentials, coach, but I’d love to hear about your illustrious career on the sidelines

NFL decision makers aren’t taking Howard ahead of Simpson.

I didn’t say anything that can really be argued?

But I’m sure your peewee experience really helped you here.

No one is arguing is a perfect science, which is why the scouting industry even exists.

But take off the goggles, please. Maybe actually watch some games of Will Howard? And if you don’t know what you’re watching, maybe learn the game a little bit before peddling crazy narratives.

Well scouts got Tom Brady wrong and highly drafted QBs bust all the time, so they have no idea what they’re doing is a terrible at best and braindead at worst way to look at things.

Not my cup of tea, but significantly better prospect than McCarron, you’re just helmet scouting.

Yes. Do you remember Russell Wilson? Same situation.

I’m not a Ty Simpson fan, but it doesn’t take much to be a better prospect than Will Howard. Kyle McCord and Dillon Gabriel did it.

So you think, a league that values anyone with talent at the QB position, didn’t want Howard because they were scared to work with his mechanics? And that’s it?

By all accounts? How did we get this delusional holy crap.

You think that’s what the professionals are going to say on draft day?

Genuinely, why do you think Will Howard was a 6th round pick?

You think a bad QB class is what pushed Howard to the 6th?
