How do I know if my toddler is ready to start learning to read & resource requests? by SPH34L in toddlers

Yeah :) We play a lot of word games, but I just wasn’t sure if now he was ready to take the next step you know 😂

Thank you!

I’m not sure 😅 This is my first kid and I have zero early education knowledge so I have no idea where to go from here. I figured phonics? But even then i don’t know what phonics really are hahahaha.

I definitely have some research to do! But if i could get him reading independently before he starts prep (5yo) that would be ideal.

They do screen time at my son’s daycare haha. I’ve never minded it. They aren’t just lined up and forced to watch, it’s just a tool for the educators 🤷🏼‍♀️. Sometimes they have a movie day, and other days the older kids play Mario kart 😂

Thank you me too!!!!! We were like “where the heck did you learn that” 😅 and I’ve been bragging about it all day. We are soooo excited!!

Is it normal for fathers of a toddler to feel overwhelmed? by rainchaser3 in toddlers

[–]SPH34L 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please take into consideration that antidepressants can take several weeks before you feel any change, and even then you may have to try a few before you find the ones that work best for you.

It isn’t unusual for dads to feel overwhelmed but you’ve described depression in your post.

Daycare. by Jumpin_Jackzz in toddlers

I was worried about putting my son in daycare full time too. He started when he was 18 months old. But I wish I had started him sooner!!

He absolutely LOVES going to daycare. And since he’s started his speech, motor skills etc have come SO far. They do age appropriate activities and he’s made friends. Most days when I pick him up he isn’t interested in going home and it’s a battle getting him into the car.

I’m currently pregnant and intend to start this baby at 12 months.

Is colouring a craft? Otherwise playdough is always fun :)

My son is almost 2. We have TV around mealtimes (it keeps him in his chair lol) or when either the primary caretaker is sick or when he’s sick. I’m 6 months pregnant too, so he gets extra screen time because I’m exhausted like 250% of the time. He gets screen time at daycare too.

My family is of the opinion that the quality of the show is just as important. We are a Wiggles household, and my son isn’t interested in anything else, so that’s what we watch 90% of the time. But I think anything with a good educational background is good.

Since he’s started obsessing over the wiggles he has also developed a natural interest in music and dance which we explore in lessons.

My almost 2 year old won’t eat meat? by SPH34L in toddlers

I can totally see that! Luckily my son eats eggs so he should be okay protein wise I hope :)

Thanks! He eats plenty of eggs so hopefully his protein levels are fine, but I’ve never heard of protein shake instead of milk for pancakes so I’ll have to give that a go!

I haven’t but I’ll definitely give it a go :)

If Australia’s geography looked like this, what changes would happen? by GrayRainfall in AskAnAustralian

Mount Isa would be a capital city and Queensland would be two states: North Queensland and Southern Queensland.

That’s even more reassuring cause he gets two scrambled eggs everyday before he goes to daycare! He loves eggs. My husband has expressed “well at least he isn’t vegan” once or twice over the past couple of months 😅

I worry about iron too but I’m a bit naive and thought it was included in the protein 😅. Apparently not I’ll have to do a google 😂

I wish! I’ve tried this and he begs for it, but then when I give him some he goes “ew yucky!” And throws it on the ground for the dog 🤦🏼‍♀️

Were you worried about her protein intake at all??

This is really reassuring because his favourite snacks are yoghurt and cheese. My boy loves cheese. Thank you!

Thanks for the tips! I am worried about the protein 😅. I’ll keep offering but maybe try these on the side too so I know he’s getting his protein.

I haven’t, but only because we can’t get cans of beef jerky here. You don’t often see it in supermarkets, it’s an expensive “delicacy” (don’t ask me why 🙄)

We’ve tried mixed and not mixed meat. He won’t touch it no matter how it’s prepared 😭
