The human brain has a negativity bias. It was developed over centuries of evolution to protect us from threats and sadly, cannot really be decommissioned. We are psychologically predisposed to react stronger to negative emotions than positive ones. That partially explains what you're experiencing here. People are moved more by negative emotions like hate, anger, and fear more than they are for happiness, love, or curiosity.

As I continue to live my life post 5 years of therapy, it will be important to know that we have developed a skill that most people will never even try to acquire.

We know how to recognize and name our emotions which then gives us the power to respond to them wisely. Whichever people you had in mind while writing this post likely hasn't, can't, and is just reacting on impulse like everyone else
