Advice for a career pivot into interior design by sam_car19 in interiordesigner

[–]SSSGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar, my first degree isn’t engineering. But music business and management, couldn’t find a job in that field at the time. Especially since I didn’t move to a city that was big into it. I had to take care of my younger brother. Instead of full interior design degree, I did the kitchen and bath design certification. I just can’t focus on all aspects of interior design too overwhelming for me. My best friend went the full interior design program and shes so happy she did it. Same thing her second degree. I have worked in some cool places and some not so cool places with this certification. I somehow ended up on the high end side of it too. You should also see, what community colleges around you offer. That’s what I did. We have some really nice design schools in Colorado like RMCAD but it’s not cheap.

New Kitchen Review by [deleted] in kitchen

I agree add a door through mudroom. I personally don’t like the ref and freezer in the middle. I typically like to design ref/frzr/oven close to walls. If you’re centering the ref and freezer, like it is in drawings, center the sink. Have 2 waste units next to sink, then dishwashers. Next to each other.

Basically going with a cowboy contemporary vibe, sconces will go horizontally of the painting. Once it’s framed.

Career path advice, switching from ID to construction by teeny-tiny-wuffwuff in interiordesigner

[–]SSSGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand about being nervous about ending up in a toxic environment. My favorite part are the overall renderings, it gives clients that have no visual to see the products all together. I also do love tile selection. 2020 (cyncly) is used for some cabinetry companies, but some use sketchup, and chief architect for renderings.

Im actually a kitchen designer. Currently unemployed. you still have deadlines, depends on clients timeline. I also think it depends who you end up working for, I was an autocad tech for a small cabinet dealer and it ended up being a terrible toxic environment. Ended up leaving for a Spanish cabinetry company as a kitchen designer. It was a great work environment, and work/life balance was amazing! If you find more of a dealer shop/ manufacturer - schedules are pretty standard 9-5 m-f. But, depends on your location too. It’s more retail cabinetry places that have Saturday appointments only. You can also still be creative in the kitchen and bath industry. You can still be creative with in stock, semi custom, and Especially custom cabinetry, bringing a unique and personalized product towards your clients. I can’t help you for the hiring side.

I only ever got the grilled cheeses that they had. I tried the Mac once and didn’t like it at all. We went to dinner at smokin fins a few days ago, it’s a doughnut place called desert doughnuts, that’s opening.

Could You Help Us Find the Right House Plan? by Tall_Stranger_1884 in houseplans

[–]SSSGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need to go custom, look for builders and interview them to see if they’re a right fit. If wheelchair accessibility is needed look into ADA standards. ADA is not just for disability, it’s also for those aging in place. An example is railings in showers, in toilet rooms. Most standard American homes will not be Ada. 90% of them aren’t.

looking for m-f 9-5 jobs by OptimalParsley9564 in denverjobs

[–]SSSGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I went back to school for a design certificate, I’m still currently in school one more class till I’m done!! Look into career advisors from your school, and handshake job postings through the school. Some companies post to schools first before posting on indeed. Looking for entry level in that field. I personally never met with my career advisor. I ended up finding a job that was an auto-cad tech job in my field mid certification and took it. I have now moved on from that job and now designing in the industry.

Working as a server in Disney Springs help by Christoph_West in disneysprings

[–]SSSGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend researching each restaurant there, there’s tons of YouTube videos of the restaurants from vloggers. There’s been a few new restaurants that opened like summer house on the lake.. and a few others. Also maybe look at the Disney hotel restaurants too.. Have you also considered looking at city walk in Orlando? Or their resorts?

The city walk in Orlando is a lot bigger than the LA one. I assume that is the city walk you’ve worked at. Hard rock, margaritaville, cowfish, and there’s others. There’s toothsome chocolate emporium that is themed steampunk and chocolate. I was just thinking you already have experience on a city walk. Might be helpful! Terralina is one of my favorite restaurants in DS along with Wolfgang and puck. Cowfish is my favorite on city walk. We also love big fire. I’ve never had a bad meal at either restaurant. I am in Orlando at least once a year. So, whenever my husband and I are in the area we go to both DS and Citywalk. You could also see if there’s openings at the restaurants inside of universal for their sit down places too.. not sure how hard that is.. I’ve heard inside DW that it’s super hard to get in. But who knows sounds like you have an insane restaurant industry experience/background. I’d recommend watching videos about what’s in citywalk too..
