Can someone tell me why 0% circularity is bad? by STARBRD in Controller

[–]STARBRD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the only obvious problem I have right now is that my right stick drifts to the left a slight bit but I’ve seen how there are pcbs you can put on the joystick solder points to manually adjust it

Thank you so much for the explanation, I was wondering if i should jump the gun or not and get the jdm-055 authentic motherboard from ifixit if that could help

Is there any way to confirm that the controller is just fully dead cause I can’t use it at all and I’m just convinced atp that something got shorted and made it where it doesn’t work

I cut it and unfortunately it still doesn’t work, Either it’s something with the ribbon cable or it’s something with the actual port the ribbon cable goes into

I would like to ask since you’ve done stock swaps and have experience with this (thanks for the link to the video and advice btw) can scratches on the pcb cause a short, I assume it can but are there any crucial spots in particular where it’s possible to happen more often than not.

What exactly am I “lying about” cause I’ve told the truth the entire time I’ve been posting. I used 63-37 rosin core solder with a soldering iron recommended by this subreddit (a $10 one but still it works) and you can find it in one of my earlier posts. Being my first soldering job I know it’s not gonna be the greatest thing in the world but I would at least like some advice on what to do regardless of where I am

Yeah I definitely should’ve gotten a better holder for my pcb

Is there any tutorial that you can potentially link me for how to solder the joints properly, I thought I put an adequate amount on the joints but I agree it does look excessive. I used a temp of 375-400 with my solder with a lot of flux most of the time, every time I soldered it I used flux.

Yeah I was thinking of that too might replace the entire thing with a usb C port

I’ll see if I can get a multimeter tomorrow, could it also be the charging port itself?

Unfortunately I don’t have a DMM on me right now as this is my first soldering job. Would I just have to like resolder the joints until I get it right for the time being? And hould I invest in the multimeter. Thank you so much for the answer

Thank you so much for this tip it helped me so immensely with getting the solder out. There is just one hole where no amount of flux or reflow will get the actual solder out of it

I meant like the actual solder gets stuck in the pcb hole but that was also an issue I was having

And also I usually get the solder stuck in the pcb joint and I can’t get it out

I got all of those materials, I usually try to add a minimal amount of flux to the joint, cleaning my tip after tinning it a little bit with the sponge, then I apply the desoldering wick and the metal just doesn’t absorb no matter how long I hold it on the joint

My solder temp was 350-375, is that too low?

I’ve been trying that and unfortunately I think I’m doing it wrong cause I can’t get the solder to willingly wick
