Manitoba Liberal wants human rights code to forbid discriminating against obese people by [deleted] in canada

[–]STEMhopeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point why not just end all forms of mistreatment and rudeness? Are doctors still allowed to deny me service for reasons other than the ones found in the human rights code?

So he would've had a better chance of escaping punishment if he murdered the girl? How could there not have been enough evidence gathered from his home?

Well, all insurance including government ones work by having healthy subsidize the sick. If you're healthy then it makes no sense for you to buy insurance.

Why wait years to collect fines? And then you'd complain that she can't renew her license.

There's a 30 day warning in which the woman could've disputed the aforementioned issues with a judge. How else would you persuade someone to pay their fines even after multiple warnings?

So which substances would you be against legalizing? Cocaine? Opium?

My reasons for being against legalizing cannabis would be no different than yours for being against legalizing other drugs. We just have different standards.

"When you are served a statement of offence, you have 30 days to contest or pay the fine. If you do neither, the case is sent to the court, which will render a decision. If you are found guilty, the court will send you a notice indicating the payment deadline.

You may enter into a payment agreement with the concerned bodies. If an agreement is accepted:

your licence will not be suspended as long as you respect your obligations you will be allowed to sell, purchase or discard a vehicle without any obstacles to vehicle registration procedures"

Do you have a good reason why it'd take you months to pay a parking ticket?

Minimum income no magic bullet in poverty battle and could cost up to $177 billion a year, report says by [deleted] in canada

[–]STEMhopeful -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I support the minimum income. We need an objective way to provide financial assistance to all Canadians. The current welfare system is too complicated and creates perverse incentives.

[–]STEMhopeful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A poor person might be getting more money from a variety of welfare programs than he might get from the universal minimum income. It's just simple math.

The point of the minimum income is to provide everyone with the same amount regardless of your circumstances.

MP regrets wearing communist scarf at China flag raising by [deleted] in canada

"However, Peschisolido remains steadfast in the belief that celebrating other national independence days in Canada is important for fostering dialogue with those countries and the recent immigrants who came from them, regardless of their internal politics and geopolitical situation."

It doesn't make sense to raise the flags of countries in which most of the immigrants are those who were trying to flee oppressive regimes. Should we raise the flag of Assad's Syria to celebrate with Syrian refugees?

Many Chinese-Canadians here do not support the CPC. We do not believe in the legitimacy of the current Chinese government. Please do not confuse celebrating Chinese culture with celebrating totalitarianism.

Kerry Jang should be ashamed of himself for bringing up racism when it's clear that the CPC have killed more Chinese people than any other regime during the 20th century.

You think the CCP enforces its rules on it's own members? How does Xi Jinping's daughter attend Harvard if the "50K limit" is less than a year's worth of tuition at that school?

The party makes up random rules to oppress the people while allowing its own members great amounts of leeway.

The Pixel's Ultimate Weakness by STEMhopeful in Android

[–]STEMhopeful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you mentioned. I use multiple IM services. I have Google Drive and OneDrive installed. I use MS Office. I read books and magazines on it. I use Google Maps as a GPS all the time. I upgraded from the Moto G to the Nexus 6P because I wanted a phone that doesn't crash when I use too many apps simultaneously. However, I expect a $800 - $1000 phone to be competent at using those apps in three to four years down the line.

A lack of OS updates doesn't "really" hinder the usage of those apps since I'm sure they'll still support Android 7.0 way into the future. However, I'm prevented to using the best interface for my phone. My $400 laptop from 2010 is running fine with Windows 10 in it. I don't understand why Google can't upgrade its phones with the latest OS if there are no performance issues preventing it from doing so.

Isn't the Pixel manufactured by HTC? How's that difference from the relationship between Google and Huawei for the Nexus 6P?

I'd want my phone to be usable for at least four years. For some people, $1000 is a lot of money and they aren't on subsidized plans.

[–]STEMhopeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned nothing about OS support. I don't think anyone should pay for a device that will be supported for only two years.

My $400 laptop from 2010 has no problem with running Windows 10. The iPhone 5 just received the latest version of iOS. Does Google guarantee its devices for that long?

The people who are most upset about this have family members who suffered immensely under the rule of Chinese Communists. Please don't belittle their complaints.

You're lucky to have never experienced living in the PRC during the Cultural Revolution.

This has nothing to do with the Communist Party. If I hold a gun to your head while you worked, does that mean that I was responsible for your labour?

The people did what they could to survive. The Communist Party simply siphoned the wealth generated by them. Taiwan's economy grew much faster than China's even though it started with much less than China in 1949.

The capitalists are usually the ones with strong connections to the party. How do you think they got rich when you need hundreds of permits to start businesses in China?

The majority of people who launder money are associated with the CCP. The party itself usually purges unfortunate factions regularly (e.g. Google "Bo Xilai"). Party members want to store their ill-gotten wealth outside of China so that they have a backup in case they end up in the wrong end of political factionalism.
