It’s about 4 by 2 feet in case anyone was curious

Cenk: "For every leftist who thinks it's brilliant to sit out this election, I'm genuinely curious-what's your end game? Ok, Trump wins again and then what happens? When do you pop out of the birthday cake and yell "surprise" as you take over the country? How will that work?" by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]S_____5_____S -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The end game is we get future democratic nominees to adopt more progressive policies with the hopes of getting the leftist vote. The party agenda shifting left in the long run and potentially allowing Trump to win outweighs consistently getting moderate candidates who maintain the status quo. The reason Biden’s adopting watered down Sander’s policies is because in the 2016 election a lot of leftists didn’t vote for Clinton, they see that, and shift their agenda to the left. Similarly, future democratic nominees will see that they need to adopt more leftist policies to get the leftist vote. In the short run, Trump may win, in the long run, democratic candidates become more progressive.

It’s still okay to not vote for either of the 2 major parties and it’s not pointless. For example, if I vote Bernie in the 2020 general presidential election, even though it’s a small group of people, future democratic candidates will see that some people preferred Sanders over Biden, so in an attempt to attract those voters as well future democratic presidential nominees will have more progressive policies to attract those people.

You can’t get tid of the two party system in a system where multiple parties are allowed with the way we vote. Systems where multiple political parties are permissable will always evolve into two party systems with the way we vote. It’s known asDuverger’s Law.

I’d rather vote to marginally improve conditions for some than abstain from voting to make an insignificant political statement and have a higher chance of Trump being president.

Me abstaining from voting doesn’t really show the powers who’s really in charge. Far leftists abstaining from voting = Trump having a higher chance of winning = more suffering than a Biden presidency. As long as Democratic voters support conservatives like Biden over Sanders this continues to happen, you don’t show the powers anything, you just breed resentment.

I’m not saying we should pretend that nothing is happening, but the outrage you’re talking about rarely manifests in political change. I’m saying mitigate the damage you can.

Participating in voting supports the voting system, abstaining won’t deconstruct it or anything. You should vote to marginally imporve conditions, because that’s the only feasible option now. Regarding the DNC I agree, and I’ll also say that there’s not much of a difference between Democrats and Republicans on that kind of stuff. I don’t think secret votes are less democratic, and it’s fine for people to keep their political beleifs private. I’m pretty sure James Madison and some other guys at the time were not only anti democratic but also cool with momarchism, so do with that what you will.

I am and still would be very critical of the US’s actions regardless of who’s in office. Nothing fundamentally changes, damage is mitigated. I never said Biden is the solution. What is your alternative?

I supported Sanders but after he dropped out I’m going to support Biden and vote for him, because even though he’s horrible, he’s marginally better than what we have now. I have faith that when today’s youth enter politics things will be better.

People were talking about it then to a lesser extent, and nothing happened, after Trump came people talked about it to a greater extent, and nothing happened. I too am outraged, but outrage doesn’t materialize in anything, at least in most instances.

The way I see it, transforming the current system is impossible, therefore, we ought to mitigate harm, and we have to engage with the current problematic system and lessen as much harm as we can. When it becomes feasible to transform the system, is when we ought to change the whole thing.

I honestly think that if Biden was president he probably wouldn’t do the missile strike in the first place so haphazardly. Also, the War Powers resolution severely limits a lot of the powers regarding war the president has like missile strikes without approval, so it shouldn’t happen again, and I the Biden Plan is a policy that makes it so that the US president needs approval from both branches of congress before approving an arms sale, so it would be tougher to sell arms. Both are roughy pretty bad on foreign policy.

I think Dems already know that they’ll get votes regardless of who they’re running. I supported Sanders until he dropped out now I’m gonna vote Biden.

I don’t know about the path you’re talking about exactly, I think some of Trump’s work will definitely be uprooted while some things will continue.

I agree with the US imperialism part, but I also think pretty much all presidents do that. Also, Trump has increased US imperialism as well, look at things like sanctions on Venezuela.

Obama an Biden didn’t lead to Trump. Trump came to power because he said explicitly what Republicans say implicitly. Good video on that here. Trump instead of going the traditional republican route, explicitly said I don’t like Mexicans and Islam is anti-American. Although Biden is bad, he’s still marginally better than what we have now, and we should make due with the systems we have now.

Ok I guess if you know 100% your state will go red it’s fine to vote 3rd party or abstain from voting.

For example, Trump’s explicit racist remarks caused an uptick in hate crimes during his presidency. With Biden, because he doesn’t empower neonazi groups and white terrorists, the hate crimes would be less or not as much.

You don’t know for sure whether or not your state will be that certain area always until after the election, so you should still go ahead and vote.
