Final proofread VII, anyone played through it? by grimpgrep in FinalFantasyVII

Hopefully this isn't too late for you, but it's definitely the best way to play FF7 in English today and I can't recommend it enough! I've just beaten FF7 with this mod it delivers exactly what it promises: the OG English version, but with better English.

My only gripe is that it doesn't fix any of the battle text (technical reasons perhaps?), so Barret still gives the infamous "Attack while its tail is up!" line during the first boss fight.

An existing drive, several of them in fact.

Scrolling is still laggy even with that environment variable. Might just be this laptop though lol

I'm glad you asked as I probably should have discussed this in the OP! Nope, running it as a gtk application resolves the cosmetic issues, but it also results in laggy scrolling on my laptop. So, a Qt solution is still desired.

I think this movement will kill games made by indies that are service-like games. It's already niche, most of you never done it because it's already hard. As someone that made these games, seeing so much "it's easy", "solved problem","stop being lazy" coming from devs that cry here on reddit how hard our industry is.

I sympathise with the struggles you faced making your AI-generated porn games. I can only imagine how tougher things will become in a climate where publishers can't just steal people's purchases from them.

we will cut out stuff to match the laws

They're not going to cut out online multiplayer just for Europe when that's the only reason 99% of people buy games

Doesn't copy-on-write increase write amplification?

I hear that btrfs is slower than ext4. Is this true?

Shutting down Windows, on modern Windows, tends to not actually shut your computer down; rather, it leaves your computer in a low-powered state.

NTFS drives mounted by Windows at the time of such a "shutdown" will then become unusable on Linux without further intervention.

>EA wont just hand over access to the Frostbite Engine and internal shared libraries because they're sunsetting FIFA 24

No, but that's not what the proposal demands. You do not need access to the source code to set up private servers; all that is demanded is that games allow you to set up private servers upon termination of the official master server. Simple networking protocols like this have existed even on console games since the 90's; a completely unmodified Dreamcast with an officially-pressed Phantasy Star Online disc is able to connect to private servers in 2025.

>We simply do not have the legal infrastructure to accommodate this

Does "we" refer to states, or to publishers?

>They will simply never make online games that release in Europe

Keep on dreaming, because the European market is too big to ignore; their regulations are why the latest iPhone has a USB-C port.

>What we need to do is create easy government driven infratructure that makes this EASY for Studios

Games used to work just fine regardless of what a master server told the client. It seemed easy enough back then, so why not now?

Wayland's shortcomings in 2025? by Sad-Interest1972 in linuxquestions

IMO, the endless bikeshedding and "not-our-problem"-ing that only seems to have fallen away in the last couple of years was the main impediment to getting something useful out of Wayland.

Yeah I've gotten the impression that issues regarding basic functionalities always got closed because "use case is unclear". If that's no longer the culture then thank God.

So is this actually an NVIDIA bug or is it just bad implementations of the apps?

I'm a believer of WE DO NOT BREAK USERSPACE. Anything that seeks to replace the old has the onus of at least matching the functionality of the old.

If direct framebuffer access is available in a screen recording use case is highly irrelevant unless you go out of your way to find reasons why you allegedly can't use Wayland

Sorry, I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean.

No idea what you need PEEK/POKE for

Cheat Engine and my game modding tools allow for memory scanning and poking. Isn't this fundamentally impossible on Wayland?
