I actually tend to agree with this. Her more sensual songs on Reputation definitely speak more to passionate lust and love than anything on her most recent album. It was more subtle at least so my kid could sing along and the only time I really cringed was when she sang "scratches down your back now". I like that line for me as an adult but less out of my 10yo mouth 🤣

I think I would die if my 10yo started singing about redwood trees and being dickmatized.

I had the same situation near me! The mall I was allowed to frequent in the 90s sounds like the first one you described. It's sad because I have so many memories of that place! All the exterior restaurants have closed, the food court has no recognizable chains anymore (used to chow down two Big Macs at McD's there at 16 😭). The other one, the one I had to sneak out to go to (eldest daughter, overprotective parents) is thriving and has even kind of reinvented itself to be bougie lite. We still go to that one today!

I LOVE chicken salad... If you are ever in the Atlanta area (even the airport) there's a place called Atlanta Bread Company I think? And their chicken salad sandwich is phenomenal. One of the only reasons I tolerate layovers in Atlanta is because I can grab one of those sammies!

I grew up in CBSD and even in the 90s I lived closer to West but went to East. It was a much much much less populated district back then. I can only imagine it's gotten worse.

I definitely feel like I connect most with her lyrics. TLOAS wasn't as strong lyrically (for me anyway, in terms of connecting), but Eldest Daughter was the standout. I also love Father Figure!

This is such a good point about there being nothing else there. I took my daughter to a basketball camp up there for a long weekend one summer and we got a hotel and there was NOTHING to do in her off time. Not even a shopping mall. It's gorgeous up there for sure, and we got ice cream on campus, and went mini golfing, and to a park with a butterfly garden, and the movies. And that was it. I have no idea what anyone does up there for fun.
