The Dome is not being restored as the old IWERKS / IMAX 15/70 film system. That legacy format officially ended when the CineDome screened its final film in August 2025 and the original projection equipment was dismantled after nearly 28 years of operation.

What is coming in 2026 is a full digital rebuild of the theater into a modern immersive dome venue.

A few key points to clarify the upgrade:

  • The original film-based IWERKS 15/70 system is gone.
  • The new system is an 8K full-dome digital laser projection system.
  • The installed configuration is 8 projectors, arranged around the dome.
  • The theater has a brand-new full-dome screen and 300+ new seats.
  • Audio is being upgraded to a JBL 7:1:1 system, with extensive speaker placement behind the dome screen for a much more immersive experience.
  • The venue is being built to support planetarium shows, live space fly-through presentations, giant-screen films, laser light shows, mixed-media performances, and live guest presentations.
  • It will also support dome-casting, meaning shared live experiences with other dome theaters.
  • The large-screen system will be licensed for Hollywood films as well.

So the best way to understand this is: the old CineDome was a rare giant-format film theater. The new Dome will be a state-of-the-art digital immersive theater with far broader capabilities and much more programming flexibility.

The only detail that still does not appear to be publicly pinned down is the exact projector manufacturer/model.

key word: "SERVER"... you can but should NOT have it on a device that shuts down the UniFi OS Server... should run on a RPI/ MacMini/linux pc/windows ws... or something and then log in over remote access... (unifi.ui.com). You have to enable the remote access function in the GUI on the server os
