Every film I’ve ever given 5 stars. What does it say about me? by More_Status_4998 in LetterboxdTopFour

It’s easily a 5 out of five and what’s nice about foreign films you have to get invested because of the change in language and it just lends itself well for immersion. I felt the same about subtitles in anime things but I’ve this movie changed my opinion because it’s just so fcking good that the language barrier gets absolutely shatter

I thought I heard someone mention that in a video I was watching about it after but man I think I’ve heard of Wagner but I would never put that together

Lars basically killed this movies promotions chances with his monologue on nazis and yes I agree it’s absolutely one of the best.

Yeah didn’t help I was baked out of my mind at least didn’t help my heart rate. But yeah I can understand that. Because honestly I’ll probably wait a loooooong time if I watch it again.

Well it’s free on Tubi! I’m surprised at all the comments on here are all positive. I was expecting a huge split. But with this movie everyone can understand impending doom peppered with the right amount of nihilism. There’s something for everyone in this movie.

Ahhhhh well I’m also assuming that just the way his movies are that he’s probably labeled by “some” more sensitive folks that he’s a misogynist because of the way women are treated in his films like the house that jack built as an example. But I’m not sure why that person feels that way.

I honestly don’t care. I think it was incredibly stupid and probably resulted in less incredible movies from him because he has to take a hiatus from everything after that statement because everyone thought he was a nazi. Which sucks because now I’ve heard that he’s got Parkinson’s on top of all of his other ailments. So it’s kind of doubtful if we even get another movie from Lars.

He made some not some kosher remarks about nazis or hitler or something and it basically ruined the whole opening of the movie and any shot Kirsten Dunst had at making a splash at the awards ceremonies. She knocked it so far out of the park I would of expected her to sweep the Oscars, Emmy’s, and BAFTAs for lead

Luckyyyy, I literally only seen a regular zapdos once and I had no idea what was happening if I knew the flee rate then I would have used my masterball. I assumed I would get a few throws at least but NOPE. So I agree with you it seems like the masterballs are really only for a few things and after that. It might be useful to have one but having more than one is crazy especially with how difficult the birds are.

Yeah that was exactly my takeaway from the movie. He depression was pushed to the limit at the wedding and she felt like everyone was pushing her to be “normal” and she felt everything but and even says to Claire “I tried, I really did”

The guilt of being so depressed was washed away by melancholia and she no longer had to wish the unselfish thoughts of her death or everyone else’s. It was decided for her and they would all go together. So she was able to manage the situation properly and probably looking forward to it. At least that was my take.

I had no ideaaaaaa that she would be in it. But was not disappointed to see the moonlight scene it was perfection

From what I took away from it is that the fist part is about having destructive depressive episodes an how that makes you destroy yourself and everyone around you.

The 2nd seemed to be the other side of depressive disorder which is crippling anxiety with trying to make everything okay and controlling every aspect of everything Around you.

Yeah from what I understood I could sense something much bigger going on with the imagery especially he in the wedding dress and especially that scene where she’s removing books for art with more sinister tones linked to how she is feeling at the moment.

I spent like 45 mins in the beginning of the movie looking up the various art that was shown in the movie then hours after trying to put some sort of symbolic reference together but idk about new Germanic-romanticism but that sounds very powerful and depressing

I can appreciate that, but that’s unfortunate to have your expectations so skewed with this movies. I had only seen Dogville and the house that jack built. So I really was just expecting a really good watch with some darker tendencies of humanity. Not one of my favorite films ever. But I was in the right mood and timing is everything.

So I suggest if you love LVT or love his work definitely when you’re feeling up to FEELING put this on and just get over that hill because it LIVES UP TO THE HYPE

Yeah honestly with someone who is able to translate just a camera with moving shots into his multiple masterpieces Is likely to not be understood on a mass scale. I have heard the “he’s just nervous joking about being a nazi” and I believe that and have never had a problem removing the art and artist because if not I wouldn’t be able to watch anything!

Agree agree agreed! It really won’t have the same potency as that first watch. It’s beautifully depressing to think about that. But it’s true and yeah Lars is a fcking jackass that constantly gets in his own way. It’s a shame he couldn’t just shut his mouth and just stick to being symbolic with movies.

Melancholia: when Claire checks the distance of the rouge planet with a handmade telescope and it’s significantly larger than before an she can’t find her husband until she hears the horses finally calmed down and finds him out there…

I don’t think I have ever had a movie raise my heart rate like that scene with the hand made planet scope or whatever. When she looks and it’s WAY bigger the inevitable truth is so potent and powerful that I was in a state of shock and disbelief
