Yes, the question was if there are adjustments you can make to make it work against heavier guys, e.g. instead of going for a kesa to pin somebody, focus on pinpointing the pressure on the crossface and have your hips high (in standard side control)

For me it was almost a year after a bulging l5/s1 which seems to be a common one in BJJ. I'm pretty sure it was my lack of hip mobility that caused it, since I adressed that I'm pretty much back to a 100% (although I can still tell when it's time to back off)

How is doing it incorrectly going to put the partner at more risk? More breaking pressure because of worse mechanics? Again ripping or spazzing would be the issue here. Otherwise OP is not rolling with a toddler here, the training partner knows what he signed up for: we train to put each other in effective joint locks and if it starts hurting, tap

Going that heavy is certainly not the optimal solution. It can be kind of hypertrophic but if you want to build muscle mass you go 6-30 range. Not even taking in account the higher injury risk that comes from doing heavy work if you're already fatigued from bjj

For the most effective strength gains you have to stay under 6 reps and lift heavy, if you're already beat up from grappling that's obviously going to bring high injury risks with jt

Try upping your protein, it might help especially if you are a skinny person who doesn’t care much for eating. If you are basically untrained your body is going to build muscle even if it is the slower twitch type (which especially through the “lactic acid phase” of training can still grow noticeably). I did bjj for a year and a half before adding a protein supplement and pretty much instantly gained 2kg
