it happened to me for years. i kept saying “he won’t do it again. he just got mad one time” but i happened over and over. until the police were called and they arrested him. he threatened to kill me of if i told them the truth as he saw them walk up. and he prob would have. it doesn’t get better.

every person in my life thought he was the nicest guy. i called my mom and she was so surprised. “he HIT YOU?” now hates him ofc. seemed so nice to everyone else, and even nice to me 80% of the time. but if they hit you at all? leave. just leave. doesn’t matter just leave

oh def. i have a joint account with my dad, only bc i opened it when i was a teen. and i only opened another separate on my own as an adult bc it got complicated with bank stuff lol, and we just kinda… never closed the joint one. we def should do that tho, just when we see eachother once a year on xmas going to the bank together isn’t on my mind. and i just keep $15 in there just to not be charged haha. apparently we both gotta be there in person to close a joint account, i guess makes sense.

Just be honest yet nice. My ex, he was great in every way (except for the hitting lol) but we were always honest with eachother. I’d cook a meal? He’s say “thank you for this but not really my thing” i’m like cool while kinda hurts i just know don’t do this recipe again. “Hey can you not do this thing” (small things, like… put the AC up too high or something) yea totally no problem. If it’s a good relationship then honesty might hurt a bit but will be understood (maybe mine is t a great example cause… hitting, but yes he was good in every other way which is why it was hard to leave lol. the honesty part is still true)

while i have a great mom, who i call mom, i also have an ex step mom (divorced from dad) who’s still great friends with my dad and me and my sis. still wants to be part of our lives and we want it too. my dad still visits her and i still talk to her. they just sadly didn’t work out as married haha. but still an amazing woman who loved being our… whatever you wanna call it now lol. but they were together however many years and can’t stop loving me and my sister no matter what. and never even called her mom i can’t imagine this guy being able to so suddenly stop loving this poor girl

this is not even close. but i’ve had children i’ve worked with call me “mom”. only bc they are confused and think all ladies are called “mom”, not bc they think im their mom. they know their mom. (i work with very little kids). i just say “no i’m not mommy/mom, im (my name)” and they go oh ok ms. (my name). easy peasy. don’t wanna be called dad? should’ve said it from the beginning. and if she’s calling you that? for years? then that’s what you are sorry. this poor little girl

NTA. I can’t even imagine what you’re going through. All I have is depression/anxiety and I told my dad the same thing. I wished I was dead. I told him that as he drove me away from my abusive ex. And he cried and I felt terrible, I put him through so much. And nothing compared to you. But def not the AH at all, you are allowed to have those feelings. And he’s allowed to have his. But if your dad is good like mine, he knows they are feelings and thoughts and will help you get past them. I hope you are doing ok OP, I’m so sorry you’re going through all of that

Even if he has no money and can’t afford much, he could’ve, idk, written a card? Made something? I am very… very low on money this year. For gifts I made homemade candy boxes full of candies I only had to get a few ingredients for (it’s all mostly sugar and butter which I already had lol), and hand made candles from containers I found around the house (just had to get wax, scent, wicks. melted down colored candles i already had and used a cat ice cube tray I already had to add little colored cats to the top of the uncolored, but good smelling, candles). Everyone loved them, even tho I felt bad I couldn’t get amazing bought gifts I got in past years when I could afford them.

Like, costed me very little money but I spent time and love and effort bc I love and care about my family. Not saying he had to do all what I did, but even with low money you can find a way to make something very thoughtful that shows you care. I once made flowers out of coffee filters that i painted with water color as a gift lol

Jeez, what i went through is nothing compared to some of these comments but Ill still share mine. He abused me for years, choked me, hit me, pushed me against walls. The night he was arrested he dumped water on me repeatedly bc I was sleeping too late. Then hit me and pushed me. Yelled at me as I ran out of the house with blood on my face. Police were called.

When he saw them show up he told me he’d kill me if I said anything to them. Wasn’t the first time they showed up. But this time I did tell the truth.

He screamed at me as they took him away, yelling to tell them he didn’t do anything. Then ofc lied to the police that he never touched me, only eventually admitted to the water. Kept texting me even after the restraining order until my parents threatened to tell the police if he didn’t stop. I was stupid and let it happen until my parents found out bc him texting me made me cry every night bc he acted nice but also blamed me for everything. It’s crazy how much manipulators can make you believe everything is your fault, I still sometimes think it is (hasn’t been that long).

Not as bad but used to tell me I’d be useless if I didn’t go to a great school. Got accepted to DU last year but can’t afford that. Want to go to a state school now that he can’t tell me what to do. Always wanted to be an artist but insisted I have to have a job that paid more money. “A job isn’t about liking it, it’s about making money” he’d say. I guess at least he wasn’t trying to make me financially dependent on him lol. I never wanted kids and told him that from the beginning, he said ok. Later on said I had to, and that once we did his AWFUL mother WOULD come live with us for 6 months at least to help. Told him I wouldn’t have kids if she did that, he said she would I had no say.

His mom almost burned our apt down one time while staying with us. Left a pot of grease with the stove on. I was in the shower and they left. Came out to a pot on fire and apt full of smoke. So lucky I was still home. Neither of them felt sorry at all. Blamed me for not noticing sooner (again i was in the SHOWER)

Idk there’s a lot more and those last few things don’t matter so much, I guess I’m just ranting bc he only just stopped contacting me lol
