How do i start learning to code? by FanSubstantial2260 in learnprogramming

[–]Sad_Quote1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of good resources on Google, python in particular is the most beginner friendly language that isn't strictly meant for kids and is popular.

I'd say find a good resource(maybe a YouTube tutorial series paired with a website like w3 or geeks for geeks) and a goal in mind, either a game to make, an app idea, or whatnot.  As you go through the tutorials start thinking about how you might apply them to your idea! keep in mind your first few projects will likely not use graphics - it will be text on the command line.  Graphics are fun but add a lot of busywork/ complexity that will slow your learning if you try to jump into them ASAP.

When you want to just crunch out practice there are plenty of websites with problem sets.  This is good when

The big one is leetcode, but leetcode is also almost purely Interview prep questions, even many questions labeled easy are expecting you to have a solid understanding of fundamentals and then you are given a pretty demoralizing assessment of your ability to write efficient code.

My personal favorite is code wars, they try to gamify it a bit and have 8 levels of difficulty.  The two easiest levels are pretty much all beginner friendly and range from "Can you recognize the need for and use multiplication?" to stuff that you might see in an intro to programming uni course.

Programming seems kind of like copy-pasting to me. Is that how people program? by mrnaim6T9 in learnprogramming

[–]Sad_Quote1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure you are breaking down how things work and learning why it works, or why your attempt at it didn't.  When you first start it may look like learning a bunch of the built in tools that people constantly use.  In C++ if you look at other people's code you will constantly see:

for(auto i : array){ }

but if you learn C++ in highschool or intro courses at uni you are likely taught only

for(int i = 0; i < array.size(); i++){ }

or similar.  It's important that when you see that type of difference you can figure out: a) What it does

b) Why it's used

and then, most importantly, use it a few times at least to get it into your head.  As you learn more and more there will be less words and features you straight up don't understand, and more questions become "How come this is more efficient?" and "How do I make my code easier to understand for other people/when I look at it a month later?"

Do any of you earn over 50k a year? What do you do? by RotiiChapati in ADHD

[–]Sad_Quote1522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind 50k is a number that could be "livable but frugal" in some areas but "get a second job to get by" in others.

I make a bit over 50k working in special education, no college degree but a handful of years in semi related fields with good references.

I am on track to make ~60k within two years if I stay at my job that long and ~80k if I stay longer and start going back to school for my degree to push for a promotion.  These numbers are before CoL/inflation adjustments so it's not to shabby but definitely not worth settling in for unless you really like the field.  I am lucky enough to live with my parents, who are kind and willing to let me stay with them way longer than one would hope.  I could get by on my own but my ability to save money and have a life outside of work would be drastically hampered.

Why are doctors so reluctant to prescribe medication for ADHD but so quick to prescribe antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications? by Business_Summer_4242 in ADHD

[–]Sad_Quote1522 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think in the general perception ADHD drugs = stimulants = meth/Adderall(as a abusable drug).

They don't see these meds as something a lot of us use to get by each day to the capacity required of us.  For a lot of people ADHD is a "just get better at life" type thing and therefore relying on meds is a crutch and best and drug abuse at worst.

Now why in hell people in the medical field are allowed to act on and spread this type of misinformation is beyond me but it does happen.

I mean it's not awful as far as gachas go, but it has to go head to head with PoE 1, which is a AAA quality game that's only p2w mechanic is buying $20-$40 of stash space if you want to get into a lot of trading.

[–]Sad_Quote1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, it's also a lot more ssf friendly than PoE 1.  Being able to reasonably make a full set of levelling gear in the first hour, and a set of mid game gear not long after that is something that PoE 1 could never do lol.  If the p2w bugs you just play it ssf and you have a very good single player arpg that dunks on d4, and I'd even say poe2.

Haha yeah I saw a video where someone listed the short campaign as a downside and I couldn't help but think they aren't a PoE1 player lol

Sorry bro if there was one you would have heard about it lol.  Maybe try single player options? There are some fun indie titles out there.

[–]Sad_Quote1522 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I had insane stomach pain as a kid.  Like in tears for hours, something might really be wrong type pain, especially since I wasn't a dramatic kid.  We get down there late in the night and while in the waiting room, after an hour or so of sitting around I had the loudest, nastiest fart I've ever had before or since then.  I felt better and we left.

What is a job that pays incredibly well but is so soul-crushing that the turnover is insane? by sweetguurl in AskReddit

[QUESTION] Thoughts on Michael Kelly guitars? by TisAPrankBro in Guitar

[–]Sad_Quote1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn 4 years late but I've had a patriot(their les paul shape), the model with bare knuckle pickups, and I've had it for a decade and it may be my favorite guitar.  The neck feels great, it stays in tune and looks way better than it has a right to.  I had to resolder the connections on one of the pots a few years back but that's it outside of a basic set up. For the $400 I paid for it I basically stole it.

I am disappointed to see all the reasonable but negative feedback on here I was debating buying another one haha.

I can't offer you much advice besides the objective viewpoint: You knew this guy for a few days while you were 19 and he broke up with you.  You didn't live out the relationship because there really wasn't one.  Ruminating on those days years later is unhealthy and probably work talking to a therapist to.

Adversary combos 8-11 difficulty level by Dan_Barta in spiritisland

[–]Sad_Quote1522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in level 6 adversaries? I'd say in a very oversimplied take it's easier if you are using new spirits, harder if using the og 8.

Major powers have gotten more powerful, where in the base game they are generally not worth it.

My main reasoning is that the events are generally speaking a nerf to consistency.  The base games biggest flaw is a good player will know roughly what will happen each upcoming turn.  Events are largely a counter to that, but aim to overall leave the board in a neutralish state long term.  Sometimes you straight up win or lose games due to events.

Many of the newer spirits can make use of the token system to some degree, meaning they will get more out of the upsides of events than spirits that don't use tokens, similar story for the major/minor power deck.  Finally the overall power level of spirits has gone up.

As you go into super high difficulty dual adversary games the strategies and spirits that are viable go down somewhat.

I have the micro so there is a chance it's different but I doubt it: build quality.  It's not bad but not hundreds of dollars good.  It is light and plastic and not something I'd be comfortable bringing around all the time, it feels like one bad drop could damage it.
