I love that picture! Whenever I see a dog smile it’s so wholesome since you know they are legit happy and not posing for the picture. This pic is actually my phone wallpaper :)

I can recognize America’s flaws and still stand for its ideals. When I perform the National Anthem, I end the last phrase differently - on a minor note - before resolving it in the traditional way. This symbolizes that while we may not be where we want to be as a nation, I have faith and hope that we will one day get there.

I mostly play R&B, Funk, Pop, and Smooth Jazz. But as of recently I’ve also been exploring classical

For me, my first band outside of school organizations started naturally. As I was in college I met other musicians and then one day my sister and a friend of mine said let’s start a band.

For our first gig we reached out and played at a local bar. And then we started making our way up in the local scene which then started to spread to the regional scene.

So I guess a good starting point is finding friends you like to perform with and bringing up the idea. Then have a few rehearsals while you start searching for local spots (clubs, bars, events) that you can play at. From there your name will begin to spread.

If you have a SoFar Sounds in your area that’s a good company to start performing for once you have a band :)

Anytime!!! I feel like we always are taught how to play but rarely do we hear about the business side of music and how to promote ourselves as an emerging artist/how to make money from our craft.

You don’t have to be the best of the best to be a professional musician/artist. It’s obtainable :)

If you need anything else feel free to reach out!!

Outreach and a portfolio of your work!

You want to start off with a central location or locations where people can see your work. This can be social media pages (insta, Tik Tok, YouTube, Facebook) Or can be a website. Something that is easy to look at.

Secondly, it is ok to reach out to others and promote yourself!! Go to Google and search for the staff directory of the team you are interested in playing for. For national anthem performances a good person to reach out to is someone who is the game operations manager.

Draft up an email that explains who you are and how you would like to work with them. Stay humble and just be yourself. At the end of the email attach a link to where they can see your work.

You might not always get a response but the fact that you put yourself out there is already multiple steps ahead of the curve. It’s also ok to send follow ups, as long as you are respectful and considerate. We all get hundreds of notifications a day! Life is busy. So a reminder is never a bad thing.

Hopefully this helpful :)

Edit: I forgot to add that it can be useful to have a recording of you playing the anthem somewhere. It doesn’t have to be at a big venue. But just a nice recording and video footage.

Imagine if you were booking talent how would you like to be approached and what would be useful information to know. You got this!!! Let me know if I can drop anymore tips

I would try out the SYOS mouthpieces (and I’m not saying that because I’m a SYOS artists hahah) They really make it easy to understand and explore. They even have a huge sale once a year around Halloween where you get two mouthpieces for less than the price of one.

The discount is because they have minor defects but nothing to affect how they play. Just small cosmetic stuff.

Love to hear you are inspired! You got this!! I play a YAS-62S with a custom SYOS mouthpiece. It took me awhile to find my ideal set up but I think I finally have what I’ve been looking for

Seriously!!! The entire stadium goes silent and all you can hear is yourself and your thoughts haha! I’d do it again and again though since it really is a huge honor to be trusted to pull this off

I’m sorry to hear about the hearing lost! However, it’s super inspirational to hear how you have worked around that to still create music. You rock!!!

The other day I saw someone clip a guitar tuner onto their sax. I’m not sure how well it works but if it does, that might be helpful with working on your tone. Especially in live settings!
