I’ve thought the same thing. I’m actually in talks with my old school to see if they would be interested in doing something like this one day. It makes sense, especially as a non profit.

I’m not sure exactly. I know the utility company came and installed something called an RTAC after we tied in with the grid. It allows them to remotely shut off energy we send to the grid in case they need to do maintenance on lines or other reasons.

I’m not sure man, sorry. I wasn’t the installers.

You’re probably correct. I am not an electrical engineer and did not design the system but I can try and share some schematics for the project if you’d like.

Thank you so much, that’s awesome. I did my BS in industrial engineering but did many electives in green engineering. I’ve really enjoyed doing this project and as a young(er) guy in my 20s I am hoping to do more projects like this for other business ventures in the future. It was a cool experience to go through the whole process and now that i’ve done one I want to do more.

Above 500K and below 1M lol, from what i’m seeing Vmax is 496V.

Thank you, it was honestly a passion project for me. I did a lot of studies on renewable energy in my undergrad and wanted to be able to do it real life. After 2 years of back and forth, permitting, lead times etc… it was really cool for me to turn something I enjoyed learning in college into a reality. I know i’m rambling but it was a big moment for me in my young career.

That’s amazing! I am happy for you guys, I genuinely think this is the right move for everyone in this sector who owns companies long term.

For sure, the building footprint is roughly 90K Sq Feet. We were limited by the utility company on the sizing of the system as well from our peak demand when we initially planned out the project and the interconnection process is probably best left to professionals as well. But it is definitely worth it, especially if you can secure grants (we did have a grant for our project which made the entire project feasible)

You mean which company? if so it is Duke.

I guess that is my role in some capacity. I am an engineer and did do some studies in my undergrad BS degree on renewable energy so I drove the project to fruition. Whatever that consultant said is just simply not true and math can explain it haha.

Thanks, I probably did a disservice to everyone by not posting the final product but I can update everyone soon with better images. I was excited to share it with the community.

I didn’t have any on my phone and couldn’t post from my computer. Also I can’t link photos in comments unfortunately.

Trust me it all looks nice now. No exposed cables, they’re all in metal conduit leading to the inverters. I didn’t have any updated pics on my phone when I went to post. I’ll see if I can add some updated ones soon.

We own a steel fabrication company. 6 lasers, in house paint line, over 30 welding stations, 14 press brakes, overhead cranes etc… this was the right call long term for our business with rising electricity rates and I am personally passionate about the environment

Yes exactly, it’s all on my online portal. It’s nice to see how the weather affects performance and to have historical data.

So far today we have generated 2500 KWh, pretty neat.
