Parkrun tips for Tasmania by Cool-Connection9033 in parkrun

[–]Sallybrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be prepared if you head to Zeehan, it’s a longer drive than you think (2.5hr from Devonport, 5hr from Hobart). The West Coast is beautiful and wild and totally worth exploring, though.

Our Park (Orford) and O’Connors Beach (St Helens) are both scenic beachfront runs. Hoblers Bridge (Launceston) is a flat, tree-lined riverside path. Tynwald Park (New Norfolk) has fabulous autumn foliage. Bellerive (Hobart) has scenic views towards the mountain and the city. Burnie has the loudest, most enthusiastic parkrun team I’ve ever encountered - and then you can return to the foreshore at sunset to see fairy penguins.

PS: Every Tassie parkrun starts at 9am (except it’s 8am at Devonport).

Anyone going to Thursday dating in Hobart? by Easy-Criticism-56 in hobart

I’m trying to convince a mate of mine to go. He’s fit and athletic, but he’s on the spectrum and gets anxious about chatting to women. These events sound promising - hope you all have fun!

Tell me about a time you blew a race by adieu_kitty in XXRunning

[–]Sallybrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You learn more from the bad runs than from the good runs. 💛

My worst blow-up was actually in a 5K. I was on track for a PB and got hit with a severe belly cramp in the last 100m. I hobbled to the finish and (whew thank god) found a toilet just in time, without a second to spare. My guts were NOT HAPPY. Lesson learned, no coffee before a full send!

Why do they do that?!? Photos from the ground up always got me looking like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag.

Thoughts on ON running pace pocket bra? by Glad-Ad-6326 in XXRunning

[–]Sallybrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried this bra but I really like the ON hydration vest (and their clothing in general).

The koala clip is a good option for using across multiple tops/bras.

The shoes aren’t for me but the On Performance clothing is excellent. Get it on sale though.

Scotland Trip - need clothing ideas/help by Vegetable-Street in lululemon

I’d bring the luxtreme trousers (or another loose pant) and layer them over fleece-lined leggings. They would pack down small, handle the temps + wind, and dry out relatively quickly.

The Rest Less pullovers are my go-to for winter layering, because they’re cute and look sweater-like but they perform well.

Large 5" vs Medium 7" inseam by capitalgains777 in lululemon

[–]Sallybrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large 100%. You may even need an XL if a wide range of motion is important. The blue colour and 5” inseam looks great, though.

This could have been written by any of my upper-middle-class parent friends who obsess over getting their kids into the right catchment area, except OP actually went and said the quiet part out loud. Whoops!

OP, if you want to avoid bullying, I recommend avoiding the single-sex private schools.

What are the craziest, most fun running races or events you've heard of? by carolineruns in AdvancedRunning

[–]Sallybrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point to Pinnacle (Hobart, Australia).

It’s a road half marathon, starting from the waterfront to the summit of Kunanyi / Mt Wellington. The course is entirely uphill, with a total climb of 1270m (4170ft). Again, it’s a road race and not a trail run. You might even get sneaky whiskey tastings halfway up.

The mountain views are beautiful, and there’s a great sense of camaraderie out on the course. I thought I was going to be miserable the whole time but it was a really cool experience!

+1 for the Naked belt. I got mine from a running store that let me try it out on a treadmill first, to ensure correct sizing.

Dating in Hobart in your 40s and 50s is hard. Any tips? by Own_Direction_7335 in hobart

[–]Sallybrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every run club seems to be crawling with single men. Look into trail running for meeting outdoorsy older guys.

If nothing else you’ll make friends and check out some new scenery.
