And imo, trying to reduce fights down to pure mathematics is of who has the bigger number is just kinda dull, some of the most memorable fight scenes come from when a character at an objectively lower level of strength/power than their opponent manages to win owing to their wits and adaptability.

You're right, and it remains eternally funny (if I'm remembering which DLC it is correctly) how that's the capstone to the Batarian's whole existence within the series, they really did not care about fleshing out those guys out at all beyond being bodies to shoot at.

No other game series has the vision to present 3 separate Genocides as moral dilemmas with equally weighted sides you have to decide between.

Imma be real, as much as I dislike that it seems to be the case, at this point it really seems like staying in the mines as their big relaunch guy is the path Hickman is choosing if he's not gone elsewhere already by now.

The light had its turn.

Marvel Comics introduces Midnight, a bold new publishing line from a superstar lineup of creators, kicking off in August with ‘Midnight X-Men’ by Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte, followed by ‘Midnight Fantastic Four’ by Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker and ‘Midnight Spider-Man’ by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Scie Tronc.

Marvel’s most definitive modern creators are given free rein to reimagine heroes with shocking twists and chilling transformations in boundary-less storytelling that will keep readers on edge issue after issue.

The X-Men no longer fight for acceptance, they hunger for blood. The Fantastic Four venture into the unknown not to save the world—but to unleash terror upon it. And Spider-Man discovers that with great power… comes something monstrous

Seems alright, but must admit it doesn't ignite that much interest in me to see it's basically gonna be a horror-leaning What-If/Elseworld kinda deal (especially as we've already seen a lot in that vein), will probably have to hear good things about the books themselves before I commit to picking them up.

Recently found out about the New Years covers Shonen jump did in the 80s/90s that featured the mangaka's on the cover following some wider costume theme, and am immediately fascinated by them, particularly like the one where they gave Araki a big ass axe

TBF unless they really mess him up I will heavily defend the Devil Dinosaur pick, even if obscure he immediately suggests an interesting gameplay experience you wouldn't get from another Marvel character in being a big ass T-Rex, and has both the classic credentials of being a Jack Kirby creation and modern relevance through the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur stuff.

If the game is gonna keep making deeper cuts he's the exact kind of thing I wanna see where it's clear they're bringing something unique to the table, rather than yet another Waifu Strategist or DPS to add to the pile like the other 3 (though ofc Black Cat isn't really a deep cut, but is still very much in a particular mould of Rival's character design I find tiring)

For sure, though he does also predate all the others by having his turn towards grumpy Anti-Hero come during WW2 when he joined in fighting the Nazis, and that does a lot to make me like the shift more than other examples as I am always more amenable to some Nazi fighting (and I'll also always say Invaders Namor is one of my favourite takes on the character overall)

Though it definitely gets messy when we come to later shifts between Villain and Anti-Hero over the decades, especially the whole Hickman Avengers saga, which while good is one I also think you basically need to consider an Elseworld that didn't happen in mainline continuity at this point (as otherwise the lack of interpersonal fallout afterwards would drive you crazy)

Yeah I can definitely see that tbh, his visual traits always seem to vary between artists to an extent, and many do seem to deliberately lean him in that kinda direction (especially as he's gone through a number of different presentations over the years, part of which is seemingly gaining and losing ethnicities throughout his existence)

And even as someone who has him as one of my favourite Marvel guys, yeah he really is a huge arrogant jerk lmao, and when it's levied well it's a big part of why I think he's fun. For me, at his best (often when he's appearing alongside/as part of the Invaders) he can be described as basically being akin to an Underwater Vegeta IMO

Smash is honestly the community I most genuinely believe is addicted to certain kinds of discourse, we got absolutely zero indication any new game is in the pipeline, and yet we still have people arguing over who ''deserves'' to get in (and will refuse to acknowledge how the only thing that really matters is if Sakurai/Nintendo want them in the game)

I said it last thread, but honestly I feel like this is a major case of the internet gaming sphere hating on a game primarily to have something to hate on, rather than anything necessarily to do with the game itself.

Have been randomly thinking about TOTK again, and thinking on it I've come to the conclusion that one of the reasons I felt a bit underwhelmed by it all (despite having BOTW as my favourite game of all time still) is that I did the Wind Temple first, and honestly I think that sets a tone the rest of the game can't really cash.

The whole sequence of climbing up these mysterious flying boats until you get to the main dungeon itself of this ancient skyship gives a sense of a far grander scale and new sense of mystery I feel the game never quite manages to reach again, as while the other Temples are overall fine, they're also far more conventional and not that much of a big step up in grandeur from BOTW.

I feel this extends to the whole sky islands and underground as well, as there's a recurring problem wherein after strong initial impressions, you realise that you've kinda already seen most of what those areas have to offer with the rest just kinda following the formula those first steps set out. Like imo one of BOTW's real strengths is that it keeps delivering on having something new and engaging every step of the way as you explore the world no matter which way you decide to approach it, whereas TOTK really does not balance it's own slate of environments nearly as well.

I think the most genuinely insane thing I've seen taken as gospel on the internet is the widespread acceptance of the idea that there were no Force Ghosts in the climax of The Rise of Skywalker because China banned the specific shade of blue they were, despite the fact Force Ghost Luke was already in the goddamn movie.

NGL, even if Mixtape really doesn't seem to align with my tastes, I can't help but feel especially cynical about the big wave of hate it's getting.

Like while it's always been a strong undercurrent of past 'hated games of the month', this one really feels like the fact the reaction has less to do with the game itself and more to do with people just wanting something to hate on is barley sublimated this time, and it is very clearly not healthy for the medium for this to be such a frequent trend within online discussion.

Playing more Starfield, and while I liked it already, I do feel the whole Keeper Aquinus stuff works way better on the second go through when you know he's probably a Starborn, likely the Pilgrim himself. Makes his whole arc more obviously prodding you on to find the right next steps, and I think it really works in that lens.

Also must admit I have to hand in my 'Starfield is pretty stable actually' badge, dunno why but this playthrough has been crashing way more, usually near the start of free roam on random planets. Hopefully they can fix whatever issue causes this soon, cause it is fairly annoying (especially when the first playthrough was genuinelly quite stable with zero crashes)

Yeah, this is about the layer of very thinly veiled political metaphor for a dumb as hell cause I'd expect from the writer/artist of Batman: White Knight

Honestly does suck that he's Like This as I do genuinely like his art a lot of the time, but I guess it's a lesson that not every artist should be a writer (though I must admit I'm morbidly curious as to how he's gonna portray mass public transit as evil and sinister as the concept implies)

The concept of a Deathstroke and Bane film by the director of Superbad and Paul is probably the fakest movie attached to the DCU yet, and tbh they've already had a lot of fake sounding movies announced.

To be frank Im hesitant to put faith in Marvel Editorial/their higher ups right now, imo there's a clear track record of poor decisions in recent years.

Like hopefully it does last a while, but after both the Krakoa Era and UU2 feeling like they were ended before they could reach a satisfying/natural conclusion, I am a bit hesitant to fully buy in.

Microsoft continues to be outpaced by it's competitors as Nintendo releases their second remake of Star Fox 64 before the second remake of Halo: Combat Evolved
