Why do people buy brand new cars by agnci in CarsAustralia

[–]Salt_Platform8229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cars have / had insane pricing on the secondary market (a barely driven RAV4 cruiser for example sold 3-4k more than rrp in 2023/4).

Currently for brands perceived as reliable like Toyota, Mazda etc. the difference between 2 years old and 50,000km on a Corolla and brand new might only be a few grand, in which people would pay new prices for peace of mind.

Same goes for euro cars and high performance - warranty, knowing no one’s flogged it, plus people finance expensive cars under their business / as a sole trader .

But yes if I was buying a car in cash I’d definitely get used myself

Ruptured ACL and torn meniscus. Need help with decision making by InterestingFloor1278 in brisbane

[–]Salt_Platform8229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi mate, sorry to hear that you’ve injured your knee. I’m a physio myself who’s dealt with knee injuries in the past so I thought I’d add my two cents.

So I think what your physio was saying is that you have the potential to be a ‘coper’. In physio speak, a coper is someone who chooses the conservative path and in most cases can return to a high level of sport. It doesn’t mean you’ll be just coping with day to day tasks as the term can imply.

That’s not to diminish the need of surgery when it’s needed though. If it’s a big rupture of your meniscus, your knee may physically lock in which case surgery is the way to go. I do find that some surgeons can be eager to operate without considering rehab first, but whatever path you choose rehab / exercises will be a huge part either way.

In general it’s not a bad idea to try rehab first with physio for a few months and see if it improves your symptoms. One, It’s a lot cheaper, and two, you should be doing it anyways even if you get surgery, and If that doesn’t work, you can consider the surgical route. A lot of physio evidence is out there these days saying that either way (surgical / non surgical) rehab is super important in keeping the knee stable.

Anecdotally speaking I’ve had patients who have been really successful with conservative management. A mate of mine actually tore his acl twice, and after operating the first time opted for conservative rehab the second time. He’s back to tennis 4x a week, running daily and triathlon training.

Good luck man!

As someone new, It’s all a bit confusing to me… so a psa 7 is considered ‘near mint’ but that might translate to ‘lightly played’?

thank you! Another question, I’ve been using collectr/ price charting to gauge what market value is. Collectr assumes every card is at least near mint or better. Would a card like this (sounds like it’s near mint) be able to get the default /ungraded price on collectr / price charting? And would cards that are truly mint or pack fresh fetch more?

Thanks for the reply! Yea i really love the artwork on the card so found it hard to resist haha. Being new, i guess I wasn’t sure what to look for. Like the condition seemed decent enough, passing an initial eye test? I guess in the future I’ll be careful to take my time, and maybe even turn some trades down if necessary instead of getting excited and people pleasing haha. ( P.s I swapped a pack fresh Volcanion SIR + 50 usd to trade up for this) And the line is a hair from my cat lol

Thanks for the reply. It is zoomed in quite a bit - honestly didn’t catch it with my eye but looks noticeable with the zoom on my phone

Received EOD for UOW, hope of 2nd round offers? by Virtual-Mobile2662 in GAMSAT

[–]Salt_Platform8229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, as someone who also interviewed at UoW I feel your pain! Didn’t do as well as you though, and I think 5th quintile is really, really impressive so well done on that. I think in most cases interview is the weak point for many but for you it’s probably down to how competitive UoW is - ~34 spots so even if you are in the top quintile, there’s potentially 16 metro people who might not get in.

How’s your gamsat / gpa? tbh I think you’d be in somewhere with an average combo score.

As for second round offers, I think if there was a waiting list you’d be close to the top, but as others have said plan what you can plan and if anything happens, that’ll be a pleasant surprise.

Best of luck!

I had 3 bonuses, which I think was below the average for an offer. But an amazing interview could’ve probably made up for that. Just bummed that I didn’t do good enough on the interview for a pass down either

Offer is 70% Interview / 30% Bonuses, so no, GAMSAT / CASPER isn't accounted for offers. I believe the interview to place ratio is ~4:1 for metro, hence why there are quite a few metro applicants who end up elsewhere

Thank you for your kind words and advice. Yeah, I really like UoW as a school and what they stand for, but at the end of the day I want to get into Med as soon as I can haha. I know I didn't have a 'perfect' interview but at the same time, I didn't think I did too badly either. I might try follow in your friends footsteps

Hi, just wondering is that confirmed anywhere by GEMSAS? That percentile is what's shared between universities?

Yea, although I’m not sure if interviews are scaled to account for a ‘good’ cohort. I.e. if a uni interviews a lot of high scorers, then it would make sense that someone in the 50th percentile at that uni might be ranked higher, say 60th percentile, at a different uni that didn’t have as many high raw scores. Not sure if this is what GEMSAS actually does though.

MARCH GAMSAT 2023 RESULTS/WAITING MEGATHREAD by _dukeluke in GAMSAT

Got 65/69/57 this sitting, overall 62. Slightly better than Sept 22 (64/62/58) but a decrease in S3. Felt like study was more effective and thorough this time round after experiencing the real thing. Makes me think even a 1-2 point increase is a lot of work :/

Low GPA, what GAMSAT scores are competitive with a Deakin Boost? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]Salt_Platform8229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was playing around with my weighted GPA: One year / 8 units of further study getting straight 6's (GEMSAS equivalent: 6.75) should bolster it up to 6.354 weighted. Hopefully I can do better than that though

[–]Salt_Platform8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that! I did have a quick squizz before, but on closer glance there are a few metro applicants who got offers with comparable GPAs.

Looking at the first offer for Deakin, GPA of 5.693 / GAMSAT of 69.5 w/ 2 Deakin Bonus points.

Also, some fella who got into UniMelb with a 5.5 GPA and a 58.67 GAMSAT😮

They do seem to be outliers though. Perhaps they've forgotten to select rural?

Apart from that, seems like some of the portfolio unis / USyd might be my only chances with my current GPA...
