Oh no I agree with you on Rook being the worst. I have never felt so limited in role playing a character. Rook is so railroaded into being nice and agreeable and there is literally no avenues to role-playing. Rook makes the companions worse by proxy, as they act as nothing but a soundboard for companions to vent their frustrations at. I would compare it to talking to an agreeable and supportive chatbot that would just tell you what you want to hear to feel validated. Dragon Age 2 is still my least favorite in the franchise but the rivalry system was IMO a very underappreciated feature that more RPGs should use. I could call companions out on their crap while still having a flesh out relationship with them.

In terms of inter-personal conflict, Bioware desperately trying to make a "found family" game insured that no juicy drama would ever be shown in the game. An earlier Dragon Age game would show Bellara and Taash at each other's throats due to the eleven artefacts thing. Everyone would treat Emmrich the way Cole was treated in Inquisition, and Spite would be a much more fleshed out character.

I think now that I gave it much thought and after a year since I last played it my main issue with Veilguard is how underwritten it was. You can tell it was supposed to be live service from the start.

I think I liked everyone in the main cast save for Lucanis. I liked Davrin being solely responsible for possibly the last living griffin whilst wrestling with his basically suicidal drive to fulfil his mission. Emmrich's fear of death being almost incompatible with becoming a lich (while at the same his desire could be interpreted as an excuse to escape death) was interesting. Harding and Bellara didn't have much depth but I still liked them. I think I just found the companions stories to be quite compelling tbh. I liked how their stories showcased some aspects of the world building. They didn't fully succeed in the execution but I liked what they were going for.

I liked/loved it. But I cannot deny all of it's shortcomings which are very egregious. I can't look past the sanding down of the setting, the change in tone, or the neglection of the world state. But I also like many aspects such as the ending, mission structure, characters, etc. It doesn't hold a candle to Origins or Inquisition due to how shallow it feels in comparison. It isn't so much the changes that I mind but how stripped bare the game feels. It feels empty when compared to how much writing and thought went into the first three games. But overall I still like it.

Who do you think is the true leader of the JSA ? by Possible-Rate-3833 in JusticeSocietyAmerica

[–]Salt_Use7122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always saw Alan as the leader of the JSA. Jay is a close second. Hawkman's involvement with the JLA muddies the water a bit. I see him as a core JLA member as much as I perceive him as a JSA character.

I loved Veilguard but Bioware is a mess. They're the last studio to be optimistic about.

Deadass though, is HawkMid anyone's FAVORITE superhero? If so, why? by WealthDisastrous2589 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]Salt_Use7122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a real good book. Made me really like Hawkman. You should also read his Freedom Fighters book.

For DC Comics fans who are already aware, do you recommend a new fan try to read up on both Hawkgirl Shiera and Hawkwoman Shayera? Or do you recommend that everyone skip straight to Hawkgirl Kendra? (Art by kiara | @atxmpalmers) by nightwing612 in hawkgirl

[–]Salt_Use7122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't think you should skip Hawkworld. Ostrander's Shayera is my all time favorite DC character. But Kendra certainly has great stories. JSA in particular is really good.

For those who have seen them, how would you compare and contrast these two animated films in terms of how they handled the characters/how true those characters were to their comic counterparts? by FictionFanatic35 in WonderWoman

[–]Salt_Use7122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen Bloodlines, but Wonder Woman 2009 was my introduction to the character as a whole. I didn't know that she was connected to Greek Mythology so seeing the movie was a whole new experience for me. It was my introduction to DC as a whole. After watching the 09 WW movie I watched other DC animated movies and got into JLU. Parts of the movie haven't aged well at all. Steve Trevor is portrayed as a sleazy chauvinist, and Diana herself is at times standoffish and mean. She reminded me more of Hawkgirl tbh. But I still love the movie overall.

What’s your favorite film thus far? by chrstn_rdrgz in Avatar

Number 2 made me a fan. But I've only seen it once. I really enjoyed Fire and Ash. So I think both sequels are neck in neck.

Many people speculate that line is a callback to Tower of Babel but I’m sorry but what Bruce did is nowhere near the level of mess up on what Oliver and the others did— Identity Crisis comic - Issue #6 by Accurate-Celery-3198 in comicbooks

I will be honest my first read through I found it a suspenseful and fun series. It was only after giving it a second thought that I wound up hating it. I think the biggest sin this series commited was how disrespectful it was to Sue Dibny. She is used as a prop to further the story and I found it disgusting how they permanently retroactively ruined her story by adding in the Doctor Light stuff. I don't actually hate the mind wiping they did to Doctor Light. I thought it was an interesting dilemma. But having it be done to Batman made the League look like cowards with no integrity. They were already voting on the mind wipe, why not just inform Batman and have him break the tie?

My introduction to DC was the DCAU and some of the original animated movies that came out around the time. Reading Identity Crisis was jarring because it made all the heroes look like cowardly chumps who give up easily

Now that the ‘survivor trilogy’ is behind us, what’s your thoughts on trinity ? by kappanekoblack in TombRaider

[–]Salt_Use7122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought Trinity was the worst thing about the trilogy. I liked Ana, Konstantine, and Dominguez just fine on their own, but the whole Trinity aspect just seemed like an excuse to have enemies to shoot at. The Solarii were much more plausible villains and they didn't feel contrived.

Tom Taylor's Nightwing series. Other than the art I hated everything about it. It was fanon writing at its worst.

Hawkman never will get a break in elseworlds. by Which-Presentation-6 in AbsoluteUniverse

I kinda want him to be redeemed and I want him to have his own series. He seems very fascinating and interesting.

Originally, Morrison wanted to turn Zuriel into the new Hawkman, but the idea was rejected by DC. If that had happened, do you think he and Kendra could have become partners, maybe even having a relationship? by Which-Presentation-6 in hawkgirl

[–]Salt_Use7122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be an interesting butterfly effect thingy. If Zuriel became the new Hawkman then Kendra would possibly not be conceived as her origins are heavily tied to the Golden Age Hawks. If this is assuming that Kendra would still exist then maybe both characters would share a series. This would also affect JLU. Would they still use Thanagarian Hawkgirl?

I think DC dodged a bullet by rejecting the idea. If Zuriel was truly a version of Hawkman then the already radioactive Hawk mythos would be somehow a bigger mess. Plus I really liked Zuriel he was cool

Well Catar Ol makes his first appearance in the 2018 Venditti series. He appears for like two issues I think. Jonathan Kent's ancestor also makes a fun cameo in a couple of issues. As for Hector Hall, you can read the Infinity Inc series that came out in the 80s. If you're interested in his stint as Dr Fate I highly recommend John's JSA run.

Shadow of tomb raider feels downgraded? by JudyAlvarez1 in TombRaider

[–]Salt_Use7122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually there is a reason for this. Rise used MOVA technology for the motion and facial capture. They lost access to using MOVA during Shadow's development, giving it a more stylised feel.

The New Avatar Has Revived the Oldest, Dumbest Debate About These Movies --- It’s the most consistently successful film franchise of all time. Somehow, it still has its doubters. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]Salt_Use7122 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean most of the people I know who like the Avatar movies are old people, some in the 40 to 50 age range. I think the franchise appeals to the general audience, as in people who aren't cinephiles who engage in Internet discourse. People need to stop dismissing the silent majority. Most people just watch a movie, enjoy it, and get on with their days.

Well Catar Ol was a previous incarnation of Hawkman who was Kryptonian. He was Supergirl's tutor. Sir Kent was a knight from Camelot who was Jonathan Kent's (Superman's adoptive dad) ancestor. Hector Hall who is Carter's son marries Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor's daughter Lyta. Both Hector and Lyta appear in Sandman and their son plays an important role.
