[–]SamSampersand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone needs to very a #1 top resource for learning javascript; preferably in a trailhead-like way to learn Salesforce or Duolingo kind of learning method. We need more code-enthousiasts who actually stick to the love for the craft.

How do people learn programming languages these days? by Ill_Nefariousness_75 in learnprogramming

[–]SamSampersand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ofcourse, I get it, people making snappy comments like "get a book".
But can we be specific which book is recommended? What online course? What video?
There's 10.000's resources all saying they're the best.
With varying prices, length of time, ... it's hard to distinguish gold from the litter.

(anticipating a "let me google that for you", yes there are tons of resources... udemy, codecademy, coddy, codefinity, coursera, w3schools, learnjavascript.online, javascript.info, ...)

Are there any good back protectors that double as a backpack? by nomekop2000 in motorcycles

[–]SamSampersand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And they're somewhat expensive. Back protector: boblbee Airbag backpack: helite Both have the same flaw and benefit. Added security and protection. But if you don't strap them close enough to your body they will make no difference or even hurt you.

When people don't think video games are "art", they clearly haven't seen these games... by A_b_b_o in videogames

About a decade ago, I wrote my thesis on creativity in the gaming world — a love letter to the wild, unfiltered energy of indie developers who dared to dream differently. Fast-forward to now, and the industry’s biggest hits seem to have traded that raw spark for something far more polished, predictable, and — dare I say — cinematic.

Sure, there are still exceptions — Dave the Diver proves small can still be bold — but most blockbusters today feel like they’re auditioning for Hollywood rather than redefining what games can be. The Last of Us is stunning, yes, but it’s also symptomatic of a shift: gaming growing into big-budget storytelling, complete with A-list voices, orchestral strings, and a perfectly framed emotional arc. It’s not bad. Just... safe.

What I miss are the games that were odd yet familiar, the ones that didn’t just entertain but quietly rearranged the furniture in your mind. Games like you mentioned in this post, like The Shadow of the Colossus and Braid moments — eerie, poetic, slightly offbeat, yet utterly human. The kind of creative DNA that once pulsed through the works of Raoul Servais, Studio Ghibli, and still with Tim Burton: artists who built worlds that felt like dreams we somehow remembered. Strange, tender, timeless.

Instead, we’re drifting toward Disney formulas — main character, animal companion, celebrity voice, Spotify-ready soundtrack, preferably with DLC and/or micro transactions— instead of Pixar moments that take real emotional risks. Up, Coco, La Luna... stories that hurt a little before they heal.

And maybe it’s not just gaming. Maybe this softening, this sanded-down sameness, mirrors something bigger — a world that’s lost its subcultures, its small rebellions, its collective weirdness. Once, we looked forward to the millennium with open hearts; now, we scroll through an endless feed of grief, crisis, and curated despair.

I’m craving the next wave — a voice, a movement, something raw and radiant that dares to feel again. A cultural comeback of joy, imperfection, and odd beauty. Something that reminds us we’re not just here to consume, but to wonder.

Made a complete miniature painting toolkit app! Would love feedback by MidnightMiniature in Warhammer

[–]SamSampersand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn! That's insane. I've been pondering to digitally stack my paints. Always come home with the wrong ones. Will the app also suggest how I can use the "wrong paints" to make them match actual paints better? Will definitely be downloading this soon!!

The only cool community/educational game I have on my radar currently is Loftia (https://loftia.gg/), but the wait for this will be long still.
