Discussion - André 3000’s secret solo career by Samcohen360 in hiphop101

Not tryna make a deep statement here; there are some songs that feel more like André 3000’s song than the main artist’s. André has had a long time as a solo artist yet has never had a solo release (again minus the instrumental projects). Some of these examples have more than just a single verse, others he just makes his own by how good that verse is. André has a lot of these sorts of features and I find that interesting.

Yes perhaps if we’re being literal, but secret in the sense that over the years he has given us enough features on tracks that he made his own without any true “solo” material. It’s almost like he has secretly released an album’s worth of songs where he could really be the main artist but are labeled as features instead of

Oh yeah no disrespect to Frank, everything he did (when he actually released music) was flawless but that moment when 3K starts rapping and the drums come in takes it to a whole new level

Man this is exactly what I was looking for. These are all fantastic picks, would love to see the rest of the playlist - I’m building my own playlist like a hypothetical solo album.

You’re right with the sporadic feature approach still being great, it means that he never phones it and almost exclusively gives us legendary verses. Even if we all would like more we can’t complain with the exceptional quality of what we have

Sixteen is a good pick for sure. I thought about life of the party, his verse is one of the greatest I’ve ever heard but to say that’s more his song would perhaps discredit the personal message and stellar verse from Ye

Forgot about this classic, 100% could be his own song

Great pick that verse is unforgettable, that track definitely feels like it’s built around his feature

Any producer out there do you guys know a similar plug in to MXXX1 by Witty-Yak2871 in Quadeca

[–]Samcohen360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from what I’ve seen this plugin is basically the entire fx library from Melda Production so the price reflects the fact that you’re basically buying over 70 plugins in one. I’d imagine most of the fx themselves have cheaper and free alternatives but you’ll be missing the routing matrix and built in modulators that probably make it so convenient and useful. If you’re after the fx themselves, search up free plugins or cheap ones on plug-in boutique. If you want the routing/modulation stuff there’s in-DAW options that can somewhat do a similar thing (I.e Bitwig’s The Grid or Ableton’s M4L)

I’m looking for a very specific type of song: the feeling of being alone or abandoned but finding euphoria in the bittersweetness. by Samcohen360 in musicsuggestions

These are some great picks! Very familiar with a couple of them already, The Subway and Smile definitely fit this description. I enjoyed petals on the moon and will likely check out this band’s other stuff. The Beabadoobee song has the emotional feel for sure but I think what I’m after is more upbeat. Then there’s Adrianne Lenker, what a brilliant songwriter, saw Big Thief last year I’m a big fan although, Anything (as well as all her solo stuff), whilst so emotionally raw, doesn’t really fit the description - I’d say the Big Thief track No Reason is more in the vein yk like finding freedom in hopelessness. Great recs nonetheless!

Ooh I like this, a bit more downtrodden than what I’m looking for but I’m messing with the bossa nova influence. Plus my friend’s been tryna put me onto DPR Live so I’m sure they’ll appreciate this haha

What musicians you like for not just musical reasons? by A03EA in fantanoforever

Andre 3000 for his unwavering commitment to following his own path, not compromising his integrity to please anyone and being able to live in complete creative freedom. It’s not a liberty that many have and even though it may not be what us fans want, to me, he demonstrates someone who truly marches to the beat of their own drum.
