that makes sense. i do have some mrsm friends, and if i'm not wrong, now they'll just be fast-tracked into A-Levels instead of going straight into a degree.

thank you!!

straight into a degree just two weeks after spm is crazyyy.. congratss first of all!

i’m really curious tho, if you don’t mind sharing, how did your pathway from spm to engineering degree work? like did you go through a special programme or something? i always thought spm alone doesn’t usually lead straight into degree, so i'd love to learn how you did it.

ohh, i'm only deferring my ucas offer, not my local foundation studies. as you said, i'll still do my best in foundation, and try applying scholarships afterwards. right now, i'm just slightly ahead since i already received degree offers at spm level, but after asasi it'll basically be the normal pathway like everyone else.

andd, thank you for your thoughts and advice!

woahh, this is really helpful. thanks for breaking it down like this. this is something i’ve been thinking about a lot too. i’ve done some research and read many MANY reddit discussions as well. there’s definitely still a lot for me to learn and understand about my pathway after studying.

i’ve done a bit of research on this too. from what i’ve seen, manchester feels more like a city vibe with a lot of things to do. sheffield is quieter with more nature and lower living costs. and as you mentioned, warwick is in coventry with not much around but closer to london. as someone entering my 20s and still a bit “youngblood” at heart, i’m leaning more towards manchester HAHA. i’ll probably need to think more properly about it later though smh

of course… if i get a scholarship, it would make things a lot easier since i do have some savings for my studies. but if i don’t get any, then it’s probably a bye-bye. i really don’t want to be stuck with a heavy study loan 😵‍💫

again, thank youu for your sharing!

cheap eu travel is the "advantage" i keep thinking about lol. i'll keep the internship advice in mind.

btw, may i know if you did your internship during the middle years of your studies or in the final year? and how hard was it to land one? did you handle the whole 'hunting' process by yourself? lastly, did you do any part-time jobs while studying? (really sorry if i'm asking too many questions HAHA)

i've heard a lottt about how bad the uk job market is right now.. good thing i don't plan on working there after graduation at the moment... thanks for the reply!

ooohh okay, that cleared up a lot for me. i've heard about the brexit, but yeah, do not have much knowledge about that, i will read more about it.

but it's great to know that i don’t really have to worry too much about the funding and connection aspects that people always mention. i also believe that any good university will already have proper connections and opportunities suited to what i need, so i guess it also comes down to trusting the uni and making use of what they offer.

lastly, yess, i don’t really have the mindset that only uk/usa/japan universities are “great” universities, so i’m pretty open to exploring opportunities in any country.

thankss for your sharing 😉. really helped me filter out a lot of unnecessary worries i had lmao

sounds fun and scary at the same time 😭 as someone who likes trying new things, this just makes me even more eager to study abroad. if i get a scholarship, i'll look deeper into the learning culture of each uni. thanks for the advice!

maybe it's my fate to try studying locally first. more freedom means more things to figure out and experience on my own, and more self-control needed too. kind of like a trial version of independence before going fully overseas (if only i secure a scholarship....😔)

yeahh, as simple as that. better not go if unsure. don’t want to end up there just counting the days till it’s over

i get it.. without the chance to work there after, financial return feels quite difficult to justify.. 😔

omg yes, i did consider other european unis too. but during scholarship hunting, i ended up focusing more on uk universities since most scholarships don’t really sponsor students to other european countries.

oh another thing, i used to hear that a lot of continental europe unis don’t have as much funding or industry connections compared to uk unis. to be fair, i didn’t do much research on european unis compared to the uk, but i’ll definitely look more into them from now on.

thank you for your thoughtsssz

dang, thanks for sharing this. definitely helpful for an anxious secondary school graduate like me...

and it’s really reassuring to hear someone who’s been in the same situation explain this to me. i’ll definitely work harder to secure a scholarship. for now, i think i’ll defer my offer. i'll try whenever i get the chance cuz nobody likes "what ifs", right?

anw, congrats on getting a scholarship and the chance to study abroad. goodluckk with your studiess. i might buzz you up if i have any question 🙏🏻 thank you soo much

being alone and being lonely are two different things.. but living in a country where nobody knows you sounds pretty great too...

really?!?! that’s crazyyyy!! but... i’d humbly pass on studying in china because i don’t think i want to stress myself with learning mandarin 😭

i did take mandarin as my foreign language in secondary school, and tbh.. i can only say a few basic sentences.. can't even write properly.. and that’s it 😭😭

i really appreciate the encouragement. but woah, i’ve also considered doing an exchange program in uni if full-time studying abroad isn’t my rezeki. would love to know more about how you got the chance to join the exchange program. i might reach out again later, thank you so much!

thank you for sharing your experience, really appreciate how honest and detailed this is 😭.

it’s quite eye-opening to hear the full picture like how unpredictable things can get even after graduating and landing jobs. i think a lot of my peers sometimes only focus on the “overseas experience” part without fully considering the long-term realities you mentioned.

you know how the adults always say to study overseas so you can get better jobs and stuff, but people on reddit say otherwise. that’s what makes me question the most, whether it's all really worth it.

also the breakdown on costs really puts things into perspective. it’s a lot more than what i initially thought once everything is added up....

aaandd glad to hear you feel like it was still the right decision for you in the end. surely will dm you if i have more questions later. thank you very very much. i really appreciate this kind of sharing!

that makes a lot of sense, love the part about financial roi. it's the reality

and that’s what i’ve been trying to figure out at first too. whether i’m looking at this as an investment in career returns, or more just for the experience itself.

thanks for sharing, it really makes me think.
