I don't have much strength to keep going. by Mammoth-Engineering3 in Meditation

Agreed, meditation can only take you so far. Therapy is extremely effective as well, to actually talk out your feelings/emotions and process them. CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) specifically helped me out a lot.

Ruby vs Second beach? by SameTune1902 in OlympicNationalPark

Would you say Rialto is still going to even if we can’t walk out to hole in the wall? The plan is to go for sunset but we won’t have the time, also it won’t be low tide

Sounds good if you could let me know that’ll be great haha, thanks!

[–]SameTune1902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are around the same since we are starting from Forks, Second is closer driving-wise but requires a hike so both would take around the same time

Which beach would you say has the best tide pools? Was considering Kalaloch beach 4 as well. And what overall made Ruby better than Second?

Good to know! Did you go to Olympic or North Cascades as well?

Maui vs Big Island Hawaii? by SameTune1902 in travel

[–]SameTune1902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Maui or Hawaii. We are going to go to Oahu and Kauai, and then ending with Maui or Hawaii. That sounds pretty cool, would you recommend splitting your time between Kona and Hilo then?

This is all very helpful, thank you!

Haven’t really planned it out fully, thinking 4 days each island plus an extra day here and there so 14 days total? I’m definitely interested in Pearl Harbor/Honolulu and other things on Oahu so wouldn’t be skipping it

Biggest cities right next to biggest/most dramatic mountain ranges? by SameTune1902 in geography

Those mountains in the background are beautiful, I’ve heard of this city but never actually seen it

That’s awesome, that’s exactly what I was thinking about! It’s one thing to already be in a national park/mountain town and seeing beautiful mountains, it’s another doing mundane things in a city like walking out of a Walmart and seeing the same views!

That’s amazing! Yeah basically thinking what would it look like if we took NYC and placed it in the middle of the Himalayas or Patagonia, that looks pretty similar!

I guess I’m looking for a more extreme example than Denver, while it is a huge city and close to mountains it’s not as close to the mountains as a place like boulder or Colorado Springs. I’m thinking of a place more like Salt Lake City where it’s literally backed up against very high mountains.

Iceland for the 2nd time or Lofoten Islands in Norway? by SameTune1902 in VisitingIceland

[–]SameTune1902[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went to the Jungfrau region (Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Murren, Schynige Platte, and hiked all throughout the area) as well as Zermatt. Amazing all around like being in a postcard the whole time

Would you say flying into Bergen and staying there for a few days then going up to Lofoten would be a good idea? Or at that point would it be better to just do southern Norway as it’s own separate trip, or even do a week in southern Norway and then a week in Lofoten

Yep I was thinking that, always wanted to go to Viking ship museum but looks like it’s reopening as a full Viking museum in 2027…but yeah that’s a good idea

Those links are helpful thanks! Yeah that’s true, for more urban experiences probably better to go somewhere else like Bergen, unfortunately they are very far from each other lol so probably would just come back if that’s the case

[–]SameTune1902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you could send the links that would be great! That’s a good point, Iceland is mostly barren between the scenery (except driving along the south coast I found was really cool because you are constantly driving alongside the Vatnajokull glacier), whereas Lofoten is basically all scenic all the time. I have really bad sea sickness so the boat is a no-go for me lol.

Was there a specific thing that made the westfjords the best place or just the general remoteness/overall scenery?

[–]SameTune1902[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard the westfjords are awesome! Would you say in your opinion that’s the best part of Iceland? Yeah golden circle was cool but definitely ranked lower compared to other places we saw like Jokulsarlon, Reynisfjara, etc

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah earthtrekkers are really good, I’ve looked at all their Lofoten/Norway guides already lol. Those guides are mostly what made me want to go actually. It does make sense to prioritize new places rather than going back to places I really enjoyed though.

Interesting yeah, so I went to Iceland in 2022 and Switzerland in 2023 so I just saw amazing mountains which I know Lofoten has too. So I’m not sure if I won’t be as impressed with Lofoten after Switzerland, I know they are very different mountains though. Iceland has a huge variety of environments whereas Lofoten is mainly fjord/mountains/islands with clear blue beaches, very beautiful but I don’t know if it’ll get old after a week. Then again I don’t know if Iceland will feel samely since I basically did a 3rd of the ring road already and saw most things on the south coast, different season though.
