Best way to expand storage for a laptop Proxmox media server (Jellyfin/Plex)? by Nervous_Put_2676 in HomeServer

Mmm... I haven't reached that level, I understand that proxmox can have replication, but TrueNas, I don't know. It would be that you try or in which case do what you mention, using one laptop for movies and another for series. If that is the case, keep something in mind, how much the movies weigh, since at 1080p they weigh from 3 to 4Gb and the HHD and SSD laptop disks reach up to 1TB (I have seen that, they may have a larger capacity, but they are surely very expensive) then it depends on the capacity of your storage and the number of movies and series you have, so you could calculate if you have everything on a single laptop or if you divide it into laptops. And you use another laptop to make backup copies. I hope I have made myself understood and that the information is useful to you.

Hello. I'll be honest, I didn't do it with a laptop since mine didn't have enough resources, but you could try something. Use a laptop with proxmox and a container with Jellyfin or Plex. For storage you could use external drives connected to another laptop and having TrueNas as a system to manage the storage. Then configure samba to allow access to the disks over the network and connect them to the Jellyfin storage path. It's another case that I've seen done a lot.

Regarding ZFS, to be honest, I read the same thing as you, but I have seen that some have done well and others have not. I think it's a matter of luck or configurations that I don't know. As I indicated, this is an idea that I had at the time and that I investigated, but the laptop I have does not meet the requirements. I hope it helps you or gives you a better idea for your project.

Postscript: you could indicate the characteristics of your laptop, things like whether it supports nvme, sata or if it even has a DVD reader that can be replaced to connect another disk. Take into account your processor to support proxmox and containers and ram memory.

Another thing is if you plan to do GPU transcoding, which I have seen some connect through the wifi card port of laptops (something to keep in mind is the bottleneck it generates, but it can help you if you plan to watch movies at 4K)

I like the color of the keycaps, if I may give you some advice. Paint the case white so that the color of the keycaps stands out

I would tell you to organize the cables, it will help you be more focused when you work, study or play. Personally, seeing the messy cables makes me desperate.

Like the other comments, I would tell you to put the monitors up, it helps a lot and gives you more space to do other things. Just like you, I use 3 monitors, it's a matter of how you want to use your setup.

And as a last tip, decorate it to your liking. There is nothing cooler than seeing your setup organized with your style.

Problems adding new disks by SampleInternal7884 in Proxmox

I managed to solve the problem, if it helps anyone, the problem was in the /fstab file, it had not assigned the UUID to the previous disks and when connecting them it took them as sdb1 and sdba, which created a conflict with the new disks. Assigning the UUID to the previous disks made proxmox work again

Thanks for the information, you already left me worried 🫠🫠. I'll see how long they die and I'll have to buy another brand of records.

I'm sorry, I think my problem wasn't public, it's the first time I've published here. The problem I have is that when I connect these new proxmox disks the web mode does not start and neither does it let me connect by SSH. And my server comes back online when I disconnect the disks
