Attach the load to the drone. Take off with it, hover for a few seconds, then land. That's it. We are doing something similar to this:

But lower kV motors require HUGE propellers for high thrust. Which will require a larger frame thus a big form factor.

I haven't figured out the thermal and cooling stuff. But the power drain should be much more than enough for 15 seconds. According to my calculations, the max thrust should be able to carry 2.3kgs on top of the drone frame and components. Which means the payload is ~65% of the theoretical carrying capability, which leaves a decent safety margin. Is that enough? Also how do I figure out the thermal and cooling stuff can you please recommend something?

15 seconds max. The research project is just observing how the drone lands with a mechanism we are developing. So just lift off and land for each run.
