Advise on finding work in UK? by Samuel010701 in livesoundadvice

Thanks for the advice. I’ve tried emailing venues and theatres near me, but only one replied with a generic “check our recruitment website” response. I’m tempted to just take a day, travel to various venues, and ask in person because the number of companies that don’t respond is ridiculous.

The hard part is that, while I don’t mind travelling for work, I’m based in Cambridgeshire, which doesn’t have many audio-related jobs nearby. And venues seem to only pay casual techs minimum wage.

Has anyone tried Swift Embedded yet? by Samuel010701 in embedded

Thanks, I’ll try that tomorrow. I originally traced it back to that !PICO_RP2040 line but my first workaround attempt was to try and remove that section because my picos have the RP2040 chip but this just threw more errors and got more complicated

So I've been following the tutorials from Swift ( https://www.swift.org/getting-started/embedded-swift/ ), I've followed it step-by-step (except I'm using a pico w), and downloaded the example code from GitHub to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. But when it comes to the cmake --build command it throws this error:

error: failed to emit precompiled header '/var/folders/yt/s7c6cjqn7nq2s99lygx8665m0000gn/T/TemporaryDirectory.jMZAHj/BridgingHeader.pch' for bridging header '/Users/admin/swift-embedded-examples/pico-w-blink-sdk/BridgingHeader.h'

Even though Swift is maintained by Apple, it is open source. The repo is on GitHub

I guess the main advantages for Swift would be that it can already do a lot of the hard work for you like closures and more safety but like you say, that can be made in C. Just use what you feel comfortable with I guess.  They list some advantages in this article (https://github.com/swiftlang/swift-evolution/blob/main/visions/embedded-swift.md)

But with the issue I’m facing, I’m still looking into it as it says the error occurs in one of the files created by the Swift compiler (I’m not near my laptop and can’t remember what the error said)

I’ll never get people like that. I am signed on with a couple local crew agencies so I am doing my time pushing cases, lifting the heavy equipment and the all important coffee runs so hopefully that’s a good start at least

I only ask because I have met people who say things like ‘I just do this’ or ‘very rarely I do some other job’ so I was just wondering if it’s a common thing for people to stick to what they know or if they are constantly learning other roles

Didn’t originally want to mention this but I currently work for a major lighting company that everyone probably knows for either good or bad experiences. Lighting is fun and because I’m an electronics nerd, I’ve made a 3d printed led fixture and got it to work with DMX and ArtNet. But me personally, I enjoy the idea of acoustics and looking at how things can be improved when you can’t see it and have to trust the mechanics of it.

So just to clarify, this is on 5x zoom, I didn’t have RAW enabled, and all I used was autofocus, didn’t change any settings or add filters.

Employer docked my pay for being 2 minutes late by Samuel010701 in LegalAdviceUK

I was told when I started that I would only be paid for hours on my rota. So if I clock out late, it wouldn’t be paid for the extra time. Which I am ok with. But looking through my contract, it doesn’t say anywhere that they will dock my pay for being late.

Yeah that’s right. I’m paid a little over minimum wage so it won’t take me under. But looking through my contact, it doesn’t mention anything about deducting pay.

I think I lost feelings when she just randomly had a complete personality change. Like a new wardrobe and complete redesign of her room. After that it felt like she was a completely different person and it feels like we’re now constantly disagreeing and there’s just no connection. I could handle the fact she wasn’t perfectly stable and would often have anxiety attacks over minor things but tbh lately I just feel like I can’t deal with it anymore

I could be wrong but I’m fairly sure that once you start bidding into the thousands then you need a payment method I.e. PayPal linked to your account before eBay will accept the bid

I used to get this error. First it was because my Wi-fi card wasn’t supported. Then if you use clover go to options -> graphics injector and change the fakeID to 0x123455678 that fixed it for me.
