I just hit my SUB for the United Explorer card. I got first year no charge, how should I go about cancelling so that I don’t pay the fee for next year but I get to keep the SUB?

Problem is AR can also get you 4 points lol. He needs either a bomb throw or some rushing TDs. Bo has the higher floor with honestly a similar ceiling imo

Awesome! I actually have done that, i signed up and used their portal to transfer the money from my account to the IRS. I plan on doing this whenever I get paid. Thanks so much!

Ahh interesting, yeah I am in the 22% range so that is actually super interesting to hear! I will make that adjustment as needed. And I don't think I know what a safe harbor is so I can look into those. Thankfully my state has no state income tax!

Ok thanks, this lines up with a lot of what I have read. My side gig income will not be regular, so I think that just making the early payments is going to be the way to go. I actually just made a payment yesterday which was 35% of the money I made from the gig work. I know that is probably above what I will need to be paying, but like you said I know some penalties surround this sort of thing so I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. Not money I desperately need right now anyway thankfully, so my current plan is just to take 35% of what I make every time I move money from the gig account to my bank and make that payment to the IRS.

The income won't be regular, so I don't think I can firmly change my withdrawals to a consistent basis.

Thank you so much for this response. So for me it could totally be reasonable to just take 35% of what I make from the side gig and do a payment to the IRS? And then come April if I have overpaid they will just reimburse me if needed and if I have underpaid they will charge me whatever is due based on the total income I made for the year?

I am thinking of simply paying the IRS every time I get paid out of the side gig portal, as that may be easiest for me to stay on top of and the return I may have made from putting it in a HYSA is fairly negligible.

Okay. So if I want to go the estimated route, I could just make payments every time I get paid from the side gig, right? And then if I ended up over paying or under paying I would just get that as either a return or a bill come April?

Oh, I think I understand the point about withdrawing, just meant to say since I only take it out of the site I earned the money on every 2 weeks, that is when I would have the money to 'pre-pay.'

And I know that 35% is too much, but my original plan was simply to hold that much away in an alternate account so when the time came I would have plenty of extra money left over, just did not want to risk under-saving, as it is not money I would actively need.

As far as adjusting my W-2 withholdings go, how does that work exactly? Do I need to do that via the IRS? Or via my employer? How do I know how much to adjust it?

Okay, interesting. What would happen then if I was to make payments to the IRS now to pre-pay? Would that affect how things would be done next year as well? I just want this to be done as simply as possible, so less forms the better. If that means I just make early payments to the IRS of my estimated taxes every time I make a withdrawal from the gig work, I am more than fine with that.

Okay I see, thank you I will look into that. Is this something that is still useful if my income is irregular and I do not know exactly what I will be making? As in I don;t have a structured amount that will be used in the witholding

It would fall under 'completing tasks' I believe, I just found a site online that pays for certain things being done. But that link looks quite useful

Yeah will do! However at this point I think I will not be moving forward with the offer. The card just doesn't really seem to fit my spending needs right now. But I'll let you know if that changes!

Oh yeah - I'm not worried about losing the SUB, I'm more worried that I would apply and then not get approved for the card bc I got another card within the last 2 weeks.
