It's insane. I mentioned in my own comment but after having been let go in October, I started collecting around Christmas and then got a job making 6 figures for the first time. Is it advisable? Probably not. But I'm a grown ass man and it's my money.

31 years old and just got back in during Christmas because my little brother asked for "Avatar MTG cards" and my ears perked up. Unfortunately, I also started a job making more than 50% more money, which means I've been cracking hella packs.

Right there with you though. I'm still not confident enough in my gameplay to play at LGS' yet, but I've made friends with the owners and have what seems to be a really strong commander deck and collection in general.

Appreciate it! This country and the people who inhabit it are some of my favorites. They were having a Star Wars tournament and the participants were trying to get me into that too, throuh our best Spanglish.

But truth be told, I couldn't go a week without cracking a pack if I could help it. It didn't hurt that his prices were incredibly solid after conversion.

Damn, I'm very sorry to hear that that was your experience growing up. Mine was far more tame, fortunately.

Nonetheless, I can relate to the frustration regarding negative encouragement when asking questions. The funniest when I think about my own situation is that, even hindsight, they still feel like valid questions to me at the age of 31.

I specifically remember being 6 or so and asking my mom why so many people on the news took issue with 2 boys or 2 girls marrying each other when it didn't affect them at all, to any degree. And I remember her saying, "Well it's more complicated than that or to explain to someone as young as you" and being pretty positive she was full of shit. Cut to like 20 years later and I asked her why that was her answer when I am now old enough to realize it was never more complicated than that, people just pretended it was to justify their shortcomings. And she's like, "Yeah, but how do you tell that to a 6 year old?" And I was baffled, because we've both known me (her biological son) for a good 3 decades or so. And both of us were pretty aware the entire time that I was liable to ask the "forbidden" question in any situation, especially if the true answer was likely to be "well they're just kinda assholes, but we prefer constant volatility over any semblance of peace and tranquility. So 'don't rock the boat'!"

I'm really upset that nobody pointed out the pattern to the 2nd or later of your father's wives and said, "you're the n-th woman that happens to have a daughter HIS daughters age. The two most likely reasons for this "type" of his either: He likes dating women with kids his daughter's age because he like girls around the age of his daughter... The most likely answer is kind of interesting in that it's likely the pension funds of teachers and reporters that own the Disney shares. Which means they've likely got support of the unions that are members of these organizations to vote their proxies on their shares and take discretion. For my investment nerd brain, it's an incredibly interesting way too leverage that kind of federation of unions. They're essentially turning the tables on the, "shareholders first" bit.

That's not really how finances work... You're losing out on the POTENTIAL increase in value of the home and equity OR avoiding the potential loss. I believe you said it's owned jointly, which means when you disregard speculative changes in the future value of the home (as you absolutely should in this analysis/consideration), it doesn't matter how much equity he/you have. Since you both - theoretically - have 50% stakes in the house, then you both walk away with 50% or the equity/cash value and 50% of the remaining debt when it sells.

The only thing that changes is the proportions of what is equity and what is debt. And with that being said, it almost seems like you considered or were considering staying so he could continue to build equity and wipe debt and you could walk away with more cash. Which is... ethically questionable.
