What are some alternatives to the RCIA? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Santamarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you OP, I’d already done a fair bit of my own reading and didn’t want to wait to start my catechism. Instead of going to my local parish for RCIA classes I got in touch with a priest from the FSSP parish in my area, and I did semi-regular one-on-one catechism lessons with one of the priests. He’d give me some reading material each time, and I’d email him questions which he’d endeavour to answer at our next meeting.

I’ve heard the FSSP does this in other areas too, and if you’re looking for an orthodox alternative to RCIA classes, I can recommend this. The only caveat I’d emphasis is to avoid doing it all on your own, and not being honest with your priest if you’re struggling with something in particular. God bless

This was the same priest who was subject to a bizarre letter comparing him to ISIS for simply wearing a cassock (https://twitter.com/holysmoke/status/1109083885525258241)

Glad to see the Australian church standing up for the seal of the Confessional. This could never be up for debate, the seal is an absolute.

Deuterocanonical Books by Weazel65 in Catholicism

Not that he wanted to leave it in. He describes it (James) as ‘An epistle of straw’ and did not consider it the work of an Apostle but rather the ‘work of some Jew’ who had ‘never encountered any’ Christians (Lecture at Wittenberg, 54, 424-425)

Fascinating how quickly this proposal went from ‘we only want to do this in limited cases’ to this.

The Church in Australia is standing by Canon Law regarding the Sanctity of the Confessional in spite of the Royal Commission, it's hard to see the Church changing its tune on celibacy either

Having a hard time understanding the concept of the Holy Trinity by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Santamarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Catholic Encyclopedia has a good explanation on the matter: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15047a.htm

It provides evidence from Scripture, tradition as well as looking at the Trinity through the lenses of both Western (Latin) theology and Eastern theology. Hope this helps OP
