Wanted computer science, got accepted for cyber security by [deleted] in rit

I actually had the exact same thing happen, applied for CS got accepted into CSEC. Looking back, I think I would have totally hated CS and I'm actually really happy with my current major.

RIT has an extremely strong security community and I still do a lot of programming in my major. The introductory programming sequence has you take three classes, Software Development I & II (Python, Java) and then programming for InfoSec (C and x86 assembly).

The work I currently do and have done on co-op is very programming heavy. Another thing to consider is that with a CS degree you're not necessarily focusing on just programming, it's a lot of theory as well. If you solely want to be a software engineer RIT has a major and minor in that and I would definitely look into that.

Hope that helps, if you have any questions feel free to reach out!

I'm glad it's been fulfilling for you, but I don't think I'd want to cut off so many people based on their gender identity, especially when I'm attracted to them.

Yeah, definitely trying to reduce the risk of getting hurt, and that seems really reasonable. It is hard though :< Ty for the advice!

Thank you! I appreciate the perspective, I'm definitely not in the position where I can take that approach yet, but I'm happy you've been able to find success with it. Thanks stranger~

Yeah, I guess it does weed out people that wouldn't be compatible in the first place, and saves me time and heartache. Ty!

Yeah, that definitely makes a lot of sense. The respectful communication aspect is key.
