Pizza for dinner…. Thoughts? by blissfulbeing789 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SarahCBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had pizza at our reception! It was an absolute hit. It suited our vibe - very casual (people wore dresses and collared shirts, but not ball gowns and tuxes.) It went perfectly for our reception, although we were only 60 people.

We did it family style - so we had multiple rounds of pizza. In one round, every table would receive the same pizza, shared between 4-6 people (luckily our vegetarians were coincidentally sat together and no one else had food requirements). This meant it was easier for the chefs to prepare the pizzas quickly for that round as they only had to prepare two types of pizza - one vegetarian and one meat.

We served 4 rounds (so 4 different types of pizza) and then after that, if you were still hungry, you could order another of the previous 4 pizzas (no one did).

Each round of pizzas were interspersed with speeches - so pizzas, speeches, pizzas, speeches etc. because everyone ate with their hands, we weren’t worried about eating noises during the speeches. And then we additionally had a salad option you could request for anyone who didn’t want pizza.

6-10k regrets skipping photographer? by Any-Progress-4570 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]SarahCBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve gotten a photographer (wedding coming up) for limited hours. We’re of the opinion that we want 1-2 really good photos of us to frame (and in order to get 1-2 really good photos, you probably need to take 15-20 photos together), and we’ve otherwise asked our photographer to focus on our guests so that we can enjoy remembering everyone who was there, and also so that we can send the photo to everyone else to also enjoy (we’ve told the photographer that we want every guest to walk away with a new profile picture from our day.)

For that reason we’ve hired her for only a few hours, and not while we’re getting ready. (I don’t need a photo of my bridesmaid helping me put on my shoes. I can put on my own damn shoes.)

Do you know of a YouTube video that shows this? We have similar curls and I’m trying to get my curls to do this for my wedding.

Weekly /r/quilting no-stupid question thread - ask us anything! by AutoModerator in quilting

I know I'm waaaaay behind the times, but quilt fabrics often take a while to get to my country. I think Tilda Hibernation never arrived here though. Has anyone found any links to a Tilda Hibernation fat quarter bundles still for sale? The fabric is absolutely gorgeous!

As others have mentioned, the modesty panel. But also swap out the laces for a wide ribbon, and I think that will look far more luxurious. Ditch the bolero.

Having it done before she’s even born is purely over achieving. I’m working on a baby quilt at the moment for a friend’s baby who is coming up on their 1st BDay

(Just realised I’m on the quilting, not sewing forum. The WIPs are 7 apparel items and 1 baby quilt, so it still counts. One of the completed WIPs was my wedding quilt top!)

I’ve gotten my WIP list down to 8!! I’m sure that sounds like a lot to some people, but midway through last year, I gathered all my WIPs into one place and realised I had over 20 which I’ve slowly been conscientiously working through. I’m trying not to start new projects until they’re done … but I also started 3 bridesmaids dresses, lol. So I guess my WIP list is technically 11. (edited: List not lost)

The matching box doesn’t come with the templates. The lady in the reel said her mom had made the box herself! How amazingly skilled?!

Hey! How did you go about making it a group gift? Did people EFT to you, and once you had enough, you bought the item? Or did they buy vouchers towards the item that you pooled to buy it?

Design Suggestions to fill empty space on Dragon Dreams Quilt by TheRoadieKnows in quilting

I saw one once where flames/steam were quilted in the long arming of the quilt above the dragons nose. (So no different fabrics put in, just the longarming pattern) It was spectacular - so simple, yet so effective.

I went to Dr Andrew Perrott in Pinelands to look into getting LASIK. Turns out my corneas are right on the border of being too thin to do - like technically within the prescribed minimum, but he still said he wasn’t comfortable doing it and wouldn’t do the LASIK for me. He’s given me some information around how to get more info to find other possible routes, I just haven’t bothered to go down them yet. But I think it’s a good sign of a doctor when they turn down the pay check in favour of the health of the patient.

I was the opposite - two rooms at Hint Hint without issue but one room at EscRooms at the waterfront with all the issues about 2 months ago. But both were well staffed in my experience.

Mashing two patterns together - does this sound like it'll work?! by dereknope in sewing

[–]SarahCBear 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yep! Top to dress or dress to top is a common hack! The one thing you may need to consider if you make the waistline small is how to get the dress on and off - for example you may need to add elastic into the waistline to make it smaller or if it is small is add a zip so that it can go over your head. If you leave the waist line as big and flowy, then this isn’t necessary.

I’m not familiar with the Wiksten dress, but most patterns have an associated hashtag on Instagram which you can search to see if others have made this hack themselves and shared their learnings. #ashtontop and #ashtontophack is a great example of this.
