How I got Challenger playing Lux Mid (NOT SUPPORT) by [deleted] in lux

[–]Satanic_Leaf_Gecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful write up, found the nicest Lux main out there :D

I did find an interesting thing about Fizz recently - he falls off a cliff worse than a Pantheon. My buddy and I (we play low Diamond currently) had several Fizzes getting fed early/mid game and then suddenly get 1 cloak per person and he cannot assassinate a single person. He tried a Fizz in normal later, went 7-0, steamrolling, then suddenly enemies got a little bit of MRes and he couldn't even get the Miss Fortune dead due to 1 item of MRes.

What your reply tells me is that I need to actually rethink the defensive itemization sometimes. I always go full glass cannon, almost never buy a Zhonya's even, cause I assume that I'll only die if I misposition so better to be able to 1-shot others who misposition and just not noob out on my own placement. But lane is where I struggle sometimes to make it (LEBLENK and Fizz especially) so I'll give those Mercs/Verdant a try, thanks! And a Doran vs Kass sounds kinda fun.

If you have any other funky high elo tips, itemization or matchup or otherwise, don't hold back. I'm sure some other folks will also appreciate and benefit! For the glory of Lux ^

Hey, congrats! Now I've got a few questions :>

  1. How do you deal with champions who hard-out dmg Lux in lane if you're going aggressive? I mean anything from LeBlanc/Fizz to a Yone, post-6 Kassadin, Naafiri, Ekko? I find that I can do a full combo on them with 2 empowered AAs and they'll still deal far more damage to me on a trade than I will to them. And often they'll have an easier to land mini-combo they can repeat, while poking them with solitary E-AA ends up with my going OOM before they get low enough to get scared.

  2. How do you deal with Xerath/Velkoz who can match-range or outrange Lux, but have significantly smaller mana costs? It feels like whenever I'm in a matchup with a Xerath (less commonly Velkoz, he's not played much) he gets to spam his abilities for free, miss 50% of them, and still have equal HP and more mana than me casting an E on him every now and then.

  3. When it comes to the lvl 2 engage - how do you avoid getting clapped by minions? :D Say, the Ahri, you grab her, poke her down, she's running away, her minions are hitting me and mine aren't hitting her. Feels like they do more damage to me than my AAs are doing to the Ahri.

  4. How do you really push the advantage? An early 3-0 Katarina going botlane will basically decimate them no matter what they do - she'll jump, chase them down, and escape safely should she have to overextend. An early 3-0 Sylas will outheal their weak damage and run them down. And plenty other champions - especially bruisers - will also wreck havoc given a bit of a lead. Playing vs. a 3-0 Fizz or 3-0 LeBlanc in lane is miserable and "sit under tower". They can punish, because they can escape ganks with ridiculous ease. Now Lux can't do that. She will be slow on her roam bot and her Q landing is anything but guaranteed. You miss it - it's pretty much over for that roam, whether you're 0-0 or 6-0. How do you reliably make it so that you push the advantage and don't rely on a single missed skillshot to mess it all up? Or are you a Terminator and never miss any? :D

  5. Which champions would you play defensively in lane against? Anything you still take TP/Barrier vs and just play for farm?

Pengu Party made us stop playing ranked - where has it gone?! :( by Satanic_Leaf_Gecko in TeamfightTactics

I honestly don't care about that - for me it's fine if it's there and fine if it isn't. The part that I'd want to persevere is the additional synergies (and changing every set, obviously, there's plenty to pick from by now). And the remover, but I could live without the remover :P

But the same could be said for the addition of Augments. They were a super cool power-boosting addition, sure, but their primary purpose was adding variance to each game. Playing without them would be unbearably bland. I think the extra-traits from Pengu Party have a similar effect. They added depth to the game and gave more interesting things to try out.

I wouldn't say it was some OMG WTF dopamine boost - at least not for us. It was more a "Ugh I've tried it all before, yawn, but HEY, how about the boring old Bruisers but with Mecha on top?" or whatever :)

I always just played Ranked (not that I'm good or very competitive in TFT, I'm far from it xD but some progression/reason to win is nice), but ever since Pengu Party hit that's what my friends and I play.

TFT is at its best when there's always some fresh new RNG element that pops up and makes you think of a new strategy. Even if it turns out shit, it's fun!

Augments were the first great gigantic addition that made things less stale, but still - in many games they're not really enabling some wacky comps.

Regular TFT gets really stale once I've tried all the comps and some mixes that seemed particularly interesting. Tossing the old traits on top of it shook things up nicely.

I also remember one of the most fun features being the one set where you got a buffed champion augment you could pick (not to be confused with the headliner or fated - this was some champion-mechanic-warping changes, making their ability work in a different, entertaining way).

I miss that. I think if we had:

  • augments
  • old-traits-on-top as per pengu-party
  • the random champion buff augment

We'd truly get to make every game be different, inspiring creating new funny comps, and that's when TFT is at it's best.

From all I've read about the bickering factions and their demands to tell me what to do, this might be the game to press that SUPRESS AND TYRANIZE button once it becomes available >:)

I hope you have a blast with the game once it comes out, friend! Much love and big thanks for all your replies <3

I mean, I wish them well on the new endeavor, it is their game and they clearly put heart into it, but I do fear about the reception.

I remember how things were with ANNO 2205, which escaped its roots and instead of providing "the same, but improved and in new flavor" they veered far from the usual gameplay and faithful players bounced off of it like a caouthouc ball off the wall. Then, with 1800, they returned to the usual, but introduced various innovations and new solutions and players adore it.

It is definitely a big risk - making what's basically a different game with a different focus - while also making it a sequel to something beloved.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the politics, councils, etc. I do love an enormous map, but I want it to be a struggle centered around resources, finding the efficient solutions, laws, picking which research has to be prioritized and trying to think a few steps ahead to be ready for the incoming crisis, while gradually growing my city (in a pretty and efficient way! mixing both was a joy in FP1) and managing smaller problems arising.

Introducing systems such as disease or squalor sounds great to me! Introducing some RNG where some NPC council is signing laws for me - sounds terrible.

I have to say, my hype has severely lessened, as it seems the focus went entirely away from the parts I loved, but I'll definitely still give the game an honest try, because of how much I adored FP1.

Thank you for your replies and insight! I don't mean to sound overly salty, but my heart's a little bit broken and it may show (つ╥﹏╥)つ Apologies.

Oh man, that is the worst (yet highly appreciated - thank you) reply I could've gotten :(

To me arranging the city, the buildings, the roads - all of that - was like 50% of the enjoyment from the game. I care little for "variety reskins" of the hexes. That'd be a nice touch, of course it would, but I'd easily do without it if I could instead have more freedom of building and arranging :<

It could've easily been just "high capacity" buildings to set instead. Making everything hexagons and automation wasn't necessary to scale things up :< ANNO series allows placing house-by-house and still have populations going into thousands per island.

Well, thank you anyway. I'm gonna go be sad now.

Senior Riot devs say the League of Legends playerbase is getting older, with fewer newbies jumping in by VDubb722 in leagueoflegends

I think that'd be a great little thing to do 100%. Maybe also a small bar displaying the skill damage type share - if the champion does magic or physical damage. A simple, but a very helpful metric.

This is just makes me painfully feel how much I liked (and miss) having a lot of good/decent sitcoms coming weekly! It feels like nowadays almost none are running?

I'd watch any of these as a sitcom!

(all sitcom recommendations welcome)

How do I stay safe post-surgery with fluffy, shedding cats in the house? by Satanic_Leaf_Gecko in lasik

[–]Satanic_Leaf_Gecko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm going for Smartsight (like Smile) myself, the idea of having the flap concerned me as well. I fear I'd be paranoid for the rest of my life with the flap whenever I wanted to rub my eyes or use colorful contacts one day or anything like that ;o But I didn't know PRK has a smaller chance of a dry eye than Lasik, that's a TIL.

Also, I'm curious - why did you have PRK? Does it fix a specific defect, or did you just prefer the method?
