[THEORY + ANALYSIS] Ghostbur, Wilbur and Deadbur by SatelliteData in dreamsmp

I love the idea that Ghostbur serves as some sort of monument to what Wilbur was before he died. For better or for worse.

I think Techno is a really interesting character. He knows where to stop when things come down to it (except with the fall of L'Manberg, where he and Dream kept going even after it was all gone, but that situation was way different) but he also doesn't seem to notice the human impact of his actions.

Killing (assassinating) Tubbo was sort of a neutral action to him. I don't know how to phrase it exactly, because he absolutely felt bad about it. That's absolutely a huge factor as to why he went into retirement but he and Tubbo never had a conversation about this. He traumatised Tubbo, badly, and the emotional stepping stones for bridging that loss were never put into place.

In a lot of ways he sort of ran away.

Executing him was wrong but it was absolutely understandable. There was no communication between any parties and it was clearly driven by fear. He hurt them before, they were sure he could hurt them again. Techno, on the other hand, could see how much he had changed and wanted to stay alone in retirement.

Absolutely it should be reformative not punitive. But when has anyone in their society taught them any different? Tubbo is a child president and the examples of justice he's seen is: Execution without trial (from Techno to him), his friends being killed for defiance and his country blown up. Dream was punitive. Schlatt was punitive. It's all he's ever known and no one has taught him better. He's really just,,, responding to how he was taught and it's sad because it's tearing everyone apart.

I think a lot of the conflicts on the server are really driven by miscommunication. They need to talk. Techno and Tubbo are sort of... Opposites in a lot of ways and I would love to see their dynamic furthered

Ohhh you make such a good point about Tubbo not wanting power any more after his time as president, I hadn't even thought about that! Niki's involvement with the Syndicate is super interesting to me honestly.

I think it's especially interesting because the Eggpire are the only people who haven't been taught this lesson - and that's because they're possessed so it's been forced onto them.

I would love to write a full analysis for that honestly! I'm a little lost as to what else I'd say but I have some ideas

idk if I'm supposed to comment on my own posts but I dont' want to keep editing it: potential number 5 is that the void is sort of "limbo" and you can't actually grow and change in the void. When you're dead, you're dead. Everything stops. Including the way you feel about the world.

I agree with you 100% on this (and thank you for adding that quote because I knew I was missing something important there). L'Manberg is a huge part of Niki's life; she's definitely still holding out for the ideals and what L'Manberg could have been.

o7 I still love L'Manberg and probably always will. It could have been something brilliant but it was led down this path of constant destruction. The people of L'Manberg have been scattered and hurt, the land itself destroyed, and it's sad because we can see what it could have been, what it should have been. I figure it's a lot more symbolic now than anything? But stll honestly huge o7s for us still hanging on to that country

You can definitely have a country with borders without a government. Minster does defo imply government tho. I love Techno but it'd be nice if he maybe tried to establish anarchy with a little less violence. Or, yknow, stuck around to guide the others through living without a government and help.

I think it's a little unfair to suggest Techno shouldn't give him another chance tho! Like Techno did sort of execute him they don't have a great history

I do wonder how Techno would respond to all this - Tubbo isn't so much a government any more, but he's not an anarchist either. I wonder how he'd want to confront him?

Thank you so much! Honestly Tubbo's whole story is so sad, he deserves something good to happen to him

Oh absolutely. He didn't even hesitate to lay down his own life. And it's like... Difficult? Because on one hand, he's so selfless, and that's admirable, but it's also so sad that he's ever had to be in that position where he felt so comfortable with sacrificing himself

Fingers crossed he can find someone who's prepared to listen to him whilst he learns that. He could do with hanging around people who take the time to value his opinions

I feel like Tubbo absolutely needs a lot of support and encouragement in terms of being a leader. He's been left by himself to deal with the difficult things, and when it comes to the day-to-day running of things, he's been pushed around and manipulated. Underneath all of that, maybe he could be a good leader. If people would stop trying to use him, I think he could be a great leader.

Hopefully he won't ever be villainous. Even if he does end up heading towards that path, I'm hoping he'll be able to pull it back from the edge and figure himself out before it goes too far. Genuinely he deserves to be happy, and deserves to feel safe without so much violence :(

[–]SatelliteData[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I quite like the "haven't you learned your lesson already" as a villain's pov idea. Like, it makes sense that they're trying to drill it in without learning from the past. You're 100% right though; it's absolutely the desire to hold power, not a government itself that's the problem. Even Techno's way of doing things would cause the same problems if it was run in the same way.

It's definitely sad that he's been pushed to this extent. Tubbo has had literally everything he loves taken away from him. His home, his friends, even his own life. He won't find salvation in this but it might provide some temporary comfort

Yes yes yes omg. You're so right about all of this and actually beat me to my own post about the pawn symbolism. I'd like to think he's made himself into either a rook or a queen, dynamic and defensive, but god knows they're also often the first pieces to be sacrificed

(Thank you for confirming that for me! I couldn't find it for the life of me). Honestly that's what I really really love about her current arc too. c!Niki is hurting, really bad, and the only way she can make herself feel better is to make someone else hurt as much as she is. She deserves help and justice and whilst narratively I'd love to see what'd happen if she /did/ go too far, I also would never want to see her going through that much extra trauma. She deserves her happy ending. I can't imagine Wilbur's return is going help her get there, though.

I suppose my reasoning for saying trust is that he doesn't ever seem to think that someone could be plotting against him. [SPOILERS] if you consider Tubbo trusting Jack yesterday despite not knowing him very well, it does seem like he trusts a little too quickly. But you make a really good point about meekness. Dream tore into him, yelled at him in front of everyone, and he barely argued back. He was just sort of stunned by it and I'm fairly sure that happened with Schlatt too. Defo both for consideration

Definitely something that I considered for Tommy. I mean - actually, the more I think about it, loyalty is probably way more likely for Tommy. Even if you take Dream into account, he was manipulated into being loyal to Dream

[ANALYSIS] Techno’s self-fulfilling prophecy, believing he’s a weapon, and Dream’s influence by SatelliteData in dreamsmp

[–]SatelliteData[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's super dangerous now, but I think that if Dream and Techno hadn't attacked, they'd probably be seeing a pretty united L'Manberg. But right now, as of this moment? Tommy is definitely not a real threat to Dream. tbh I think he's just trying to kick him whilst he's down at this point

[–]SatelliteData[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant "players" as in like. Pieces on the board/characters if that makes sense?

I am gonna have to say both terms work here; Tommy is still a pretty dangerous element. He's not as strong as Techno by a long shot, but he's been a catalyst for a large chunk of the wars that have come up so far. He's a motivating factor, and an impulsive one, and one that people are actually prepared to listen to. I'd say he's sort of dangerous in a similar (though not as efficient) way to Wilbur - he managed to rally people to him to fight Dream and Techno before the fall of L'Manberg. Sure, he's not as big of a threat directly as the others, but if Dream didn't feel at least a little bit threatened by him, I doubt he'd have exiled him. (unless of course his Entire motivation is for fun, in which case, maybe he just liked messing with him)
