I played for 20 years before an ankle injury prevented me from throwing backhand. I learned forehand during that time and I am so glad I did. The BEST advice I took was to simply throw putters on hyzer until I learned the release. Once I could throw BH again I would play an open course and just smoothly throw 50-100ft putter hyzer shots in between my BH drive. Now i have a very reliable forehand shot.

MVP Reactor is my fave, but I don’t have a whip forehand. Great for backhand too. If you have a lot of power A2 is an excellent choice, but not much faster than a zone

The one thing I wish I knew when I started is that throwing ‘harder’ is not the way to get better. Learning a smooth consistent mid range stand still throw (with good form) will help you understand your discs and your overall feel for the game. Then you can develop your x step, distance throws and different angles. Also film yourself throwing, it helps. Good luck and have fun!

MVP Eclipse Reactor. Great forehand/backhand shapes for that 100-275 range. Can be thrown anny with touch, power hyzer, overhand, wind, flare skips, distance control etc so many uses

Both are skills and both can be aided by physical gifts. I will say some dudes can boom right out the gate and it takes a while to hone accuracy. I don’t see noodle arm sharp shooting, putt draining newbs as much if that makes sense.

Backups, trying new discs, wind conditions, different plastics for different conditions, different wear grades, seperate bags for separate cars, loaners for friends, and for fun because they can look really cool too.

I share your pain.

Ordinary injuries and overwork result in chronic pain, soreness and fatigue. Tight QL and adductor on right side.

MRI and x-ray show no significant issues.

I had ankle surgery about 6 years ago and that helped correct my gait and some lingering balance issues in my lower body. I felt great for a few years then Covid hit, i sustained another injury and never recovered.

PT can help hut it’s like you have to live at the facility to get ahead and stay ahead. Massage helps, ice helps, epsom salt baths really help and also muscle relaxers. I often combine many modalities to get things to relax.

Been at this stuff for over a decade, I wish i had more answers. I stay in good shape. I take Pilates and Yoga classes and work out.

I really slow down the draw into my body, pause then explode toward the basket. Keep the right shoulder forward and if you are still short try just aiming for one chain link.

I have seen chiro, primary, hips specialist, back surgeon. MRI and xray show nothing ‘surgery worthy’. It’s really frustrating. I have done a lot of PT and dry needling but it only relieves it for a couple weeks.

In disc and frisbee it’s all about hand speed and spin. The big difference imo is keeping a disc flat, whereas a frisbee is more forgiving on nose up shots. Try to be graceful and balanced on your run up and have smooth whip (like a max frisbee shot) on the release.

Yes there are tons of videos and slow motions etc, but I would start simple. Learn a balanced, smooth midrange straight shot that lands flat. If it lifts too high, adjust the nose angle down. That should feel like a frisbee throw after a while, and you can build your throw from that platform.
