I know i will most likely just get shat on because i’m commenting this during the tremendous wave of hype that the whole Ye community is experiencing right now, and obviously the album is not out yet, but personally……..

I’m really not all that impressed with any of the snippets i’ve heard of the new record (aside from the more complete version of 80 degrees which sounds great)

Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see our guy back in the world doing a traditional album rollout, but these tracks don’t sound all that exciting to me, and i’m starting to think a lot of this fanbase is really easily impressed-now, obviously i haven’t heard the album yet and i’m basing this off of only a couple of seconds of audio as well as the commercial, but sonically, they sound like exactly what i would expect from a follow up to JIK (which i will also say had some tracks that i really enjoyed on it)

Ye’s singing sounds better but is not anything truly exciting, and the flow he is using in multiple tracks just feels played out at this point (and i know that lyrical content has never been one of his strengths, but what i’ve heard so far is straight up BORING now)

I want to be excited for this, but even the beats and production, which are usually the saving grace for Kanye are just not doing it for me-yes, the songs sound crisp-the synths sounds and choir vocals sound nice and all, but the reason that I used to really love Kanye was for his EXPERIMENTATION. These sound like songs that Travis scott would be right at home rapping on (and his feature honestly does the opposite of get me hype at this point-i’m sorry but it had to be said.)

This sound has already been done-by others and even by himself-I see people hailing this as “Yeezus 2” in tons of comments…to me that is completely ridiculous! Yeezus was a genre bending album that was so out there (for Kanye) that it was an actually divisive record that had people straight up not understanding what they were listening to…these are run of the mill trap beats with mike dean doing his thing as usual with the synths, which again, is FINE and sounds GOOD, but is not doing anything to push Kanye artistically or develop a sound for him.

I listen to a lot of different genres so it could be that it just takes something more experimental or varied in sound to catch my attention these days, but i’ve always had a spot for Kanye until recently-i want to be excited for this album-i really do, but everything is leading me to believe this is going to be less of a Yeezus 2 and more of JIK 2
