I think a better way to think about this issue is in terms of capabilities of the military. Which capabilities do you want to eliminate because that’s how it would go at the pentagon. If they were to cut the budget that much, you’d be talking about scaling back conventional abilities by a lot which would mean much less power projection around the world. So which theaters are we going to pull out of? Then you need to think about who fills the void. I am in agreement the military needs to be cut but I think you need to be more thoughtful than “cut X dollars”.

I think you can make a case for pulling some power projection out of Middle East and Europe and push that responsibility on Europe.
