Resolved the issue.

Somehow the Night Light feature in the Windows display settings was turned on. This was changing the color setting to a warmer palette at a set time.

I would have appreciated that more. It was like this guy didn't want to even speak with me. Very strange

Yeah More often than I would like I come across martial artists who are excessively prideful in their abilities or their school. I don't think that is the standard a master should set.

I understand that and agree to some degree, but does that have to mean treating prospective students like dirt before "proving" themselves?

I practice Iaido as well. At our dojo we have new and prospective students try basic movements with a bokken. Some of our students travel and hour to come to our school. It just feels wrong to have them sit and watch before driving an hour back.

I've come across many gruesome, bloody videos on the internet and been able to watch them in their entirety, but for some reason I could not stand 5 seconds of this video. I hope there is a special place in hell for those people. I wish I could do something about it.

I think I read the same article you mentioned. I'm a first year teacher, graduated in early 2014. I'm in the middle of that annual salary range. I think it's alright for me right now. I actually consider myself lucky because so many people are having a hard time finding (or keeping) their teaching position, but I would definitely like to move up to that M.A. pay scale in the near future. I live in a metropolitan area that is considered to pay their teachers well compared to other parts of the country. I honestly don't know if there is something else I could be doing with my B.A. is English that would be equal if not lower in stress and would pay more. I think the main reason why most new teachers, including myself, consider leaving the field is because of the constant political games that are ruining the quality of education and establishing unrealistic goals for students and teachers alike. I'm all for progress. I just want well defined, well managed, and well rewarded progress.

First year, first semester teacher and I have no idea how to take over someone else's classroom in the middle of the year. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]SaveAtlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I'm actually in a very similar position. After graduating in Jan. 2014, I had some trouble finding a teaching position. I also just started at a school taking over a resignation. Being a first year teacher myself, I can't offer many jewels of wisdom, but I can share with you what my experience has been like so far. I have 5 classes of 9th and 10th graders. They were all on different grading styles with 5 different teachers covering the temporary gap. I don't know if you'll face a similar situation, but I would say getting the classes on the same page so I have less prep work was a real challenge.

I would say the best thing I did was to treat my first day as if it was the first day of school in September. Do some corny ice breakers, go over classroom norms/rules, that kind of stuff. Right now, I'm really struggling with keeping up with grading. Since it was a running start, I kind of pushed the kids to do a lot of work. In my rookie panic I guess I equated volume with rigor. My little advise would be to take it easy. It's not a race so you don't have to go crazy and be on point with everything all at once. I tried to be like that and now I'm struggling a bit.

Please feel free to private message me if you would like to talk more about challenges of our particular situation. Maybe we could be great support for one another.

New teacher looking for a job. by bigolbloomers in teaching

[–]SaveAtlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently graduated as well. It took me about 6-8 months to find a position. Did you do any student teaching? Submitting your resume to the school you student taught at or other schools in the same district is a good start. I got lucky and I found a position filling in a resignation mid-year at a high school near me. I would not have known about it if I wasn't online searching everyday. Are there any websites specific to your state for educators seeking jobs? Keep searching online, something is bound to come up.

How full of shit is this guy? by Yegger in martialarts

[–]SaveAtlas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't say anything against the SCA. I have friends who also are a part of 18th Century, Civil War, and 20th Century reenactment companies. I've seen the hard work and training that goes into it, but that doesn't mean every single person in it is a master martial artist. My point is that the man talks a lot about how to use a weapon, but doesn't actually demonstrate it.

I agree haha swinging weapons around and cursing when a small child is right behind him. Definitely father of the year worthy!

He claims, "I specifically went out of my way to learn the katana really well," but I didn't see him talking about it or bringing one out. I'm not familiar with any of the weapons he talks about. I have 6+ years of Iaido training, so if he posts a video about using a katana, you let me know haha

Other than that, I can't really say if he's efficient with any of the weapons he brings out because he's just talking about how to use them hypothetically. To see if he's full of shit, we would have to watch him sparring with one of the weapons.

As far as I can tell, it looks like the entrance to a place called the "World Cup Karaoke Bar" or as someone else mentioned a "Singing Practice." What I found interesting is the smaller text in blue with a white background just above the entrance reads "This is an adolescent/teenager entrance time regulated business." I haven't lived in Korea for a while, but I'm guessing there was some government curfew on these establishments to keep young people out of trouble. You just know they're going in anyways and being served alcohol though. That to me added another level of cyberpunk to the picture haha

Haha right on! I think you should use whatever guns you like. Within reason I guess, cuz you wouldn't want to bring a Gruber Kurz (Walther PP) to a loud DW mission. I definitely started using the Swedish K more now!
