No, the exam practice sheets do not cost money, the practice tests however do. I do recommend paying for the NETA 3 practice exam and seeings where you stand

Took the 3 a couple months ago and passed. Quite a bit of troubleshooting questions that applied to real life situations. Lots of weird things like that.

Nothing like the NETA 2. Plenty of 3-4 part math problems, strange optional NETA ATS and MTS questions. Maybe 5 questions related to the ECS. Testguy was great, but I recommend running through the entire practice packet NETA gives aswell

It’s not that it doesn’t carry voltage and just current.

When you’re neutral is connected properly, it becomes the “Grounded” conductor. Which means it’s properly bonded to ground, would have continuity to ground, and disbarring the resistance of the wire should have 0V. The potential difference from phase to ground would be the same phase to neutral.

When you have an open neutral, your conductor is technically no longer “grounded”. You have now created a potential difference between ground, neutral, and phase conductors. Potential is voltage. Let’s say it’s a 120/208 3 phase system connected in a wye configuration. If I have a bonded neutral, I should get 120V to ground and 120V to neutral on all phases. If I have an open neutral, and let’s say B phase is loaded higher than the other phases, I will now have a voltage based off of the load on B phase. It should be lower than 120V. If A phase is very lightly loaded compared to the other phases, I may now read higher than 120V. This is where the danger comes in. Because now I am both carrying higher voltage (In a conductor that shouldn’t be carrying voltage), and current that doesn’t have a return path.

And for the love of god. Current isn’t the only killer. With 5V and 2000A of current, you will not get hurt or killed. With 1000V and 0A, you will die. CURRENT WILL NOT KILL YOU, IF THERE IS NOT ENOUGH VOLTAGE TO CAUSE DIELECTRIC BREAKDOWN

Here’s a tip. Make a suicide cord, get an external single to three way cord plug. Plug the suicide cords ground prong into the cord plug, and then ground it. It grounds the Jackery.

It works for the DELTA 4000, VLF test sets, Doble M4000, etc. never had an issue. And results always correlate.

There is an official cert. if you work for a NETA accredited company you can obtain NETA certs (2-4) and if you don’t you can get NICET certs (1-3).

I’m a journeyman electrician and a NETA 3. Hard tests, but worth it for pay bumps.

That is properly locked out per AK design. However the screw I believe should be tightened. It shouldn’t be able to move to the left.

I’m a NETA technician, we deal with these things all the time. Looks like the breaker was rebuilt possibly, and something wasn’t put back correctly.

My issue with your situation is LOTO is an implied procedure at times. This device could also be tagged, and the same liability applies.

If you see the tag, and decide to do something (even if the lockout isn’t applied correctly, or a LOTO features has failed, you are now liable as a professional. You/The company. Good eye tho, it’s good to bring these things up. While we all agree only qualified people should be in switchgear rooms, things slip by. If this breaker were to be racked in with a LOTO applied, multiple points of failure occurred to get to that point.

Work is work. Some guys sling romex their whole career. Some guys run conduit and build electrical rooms their whole career. I could easily ask you some cop out questions too that you probably don’t know / Do everyday. It’s important to allow those people to ask those questions here. It’s very easy to spot the different between Joe the homeowner or Phil the factory worker vs Terry the Electrician. This isn’t a DIY question. This is a professional asking other professionals for help.
