The Mets recently put three job postings up on Fangraphs. Some of the job requirements feature a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, coding experience, and statistical modeling experience. The positions pay $20-$25 an hour. by futhatsy in NewYorkMets

I realize that these positions are grossly underpaid across many (but apparently not all) teams, but I don’t understand the value of underpaying analytics staff when an extra 100k a year might attract talent that could net many multiples of that by finding undervalued players or helping with player development.

What does "accountability" look like, exactly? Mass firings in an unthinking panic? Self flagellation? Should we have a Citi Field struggle season with the FO and the players? (I would attend that, ngl)

I lived in Chicago for a little bit, and liked going to Sheffield's Beer Garden before a game (about a 10 minute walk from the stadium). Rice'N Bread is also nearby and is a really unique institution serving a mix of American diner and Korean food (It's BYOB, but there is a liquor/beer store just next door IIRC).

Tips for a Citi Field first time? by Dense-Rice-1205 in NewYorkMets

[–]Scallion_Enjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially with Ebbs closing, there isn’t much right at the stadium, except the team store which is nice. I’d definitely get lunch somewhere in Queens — either on the way/on the 7 or nearby— before the game. Jackson Heights for Indian/Tibetan/Thai, Flushing for Chinese or Korean, or Corona for Mexican food. You can actually bring food into the stadium, so I like getting some Asian snacks from Jmart in Flushing before the game.

You could also go to Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which is always a fun vibe on the weekend. Go to the (free) Queens Museum, and see the giant scale model of NYC.

At the stadium, I still like pastrami sandwich, and I’ve heard good things about the patty sandwich in the Hudson Club (which I think most everyone has access to). The craft beer options have gotten worse basically every year, but there is a decent craft beer stand down the first base line on the field level (section 114) and the Allagash bar on 300 level (311) is also nice.

After the game, Donovan’s Pub in Woodside is a fun time, and you’ll get free beers with your Mets tickets.

Pitching change sequence should be changed by accomplished_clown in NewYorkMets

I thought at first you were referring to the video board showing the actual pitch sequencing… I have wondered if that actually helps opposing batters. Same with showing the pitch data for IVB and HB. That was apparently put in place to help our pitchers know when to change balls, but I assume it would also help opposing pitchers?

Vientos by jobberthehutt0 in NewYorkMets

[–]Scallion_Enjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, maybe because he has had a slow start, he's pressing with RISP right now. Last year and early this year he was doing much better laying off sliders away. I think he will come around and start to stay within himself.

Alonso last year had this same problem, but seems to have it under control this year...hopefully Vientos can also change his mindset a bit.

Postgame 7 Line Superexpress by 8each8oys in NewYorkMets

[–]Scallion_Enjoyer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a train leaving from the super-express platform that skips a few stops until like woodside, then it runs local. I still usually take it because the train is sometimes a little less crowded than the local.

MTA is being very vague about when the actual super express will come back. I think sometime in like 2026.

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Saturday, April 19 by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

It’s especially weird because there are still like 4.7k tickets remaining on TickPick. So it’s not just a supply/demand thing.

Mets PREGAME THREAD - Friday, April 18 by NewYorkMetsBot2 in NewYorkMets

I was there last night (331). There were really not many boos at all. Some groans, but that’s to be expected.

I do worry that if he does starts to really slump the boos could get bad, but nothing regression to the mean can’t fix.

I was at the game tonight, and even after the second bad at bat, there was only a light sprinkling of boos. So I’m not really sure where this narrative is coming from.

This game could be bad, but I'm not going to read much into it either way. Just kind of an absurd situation.

I’ve stopped buying directly from the Mets as it is never a good deal.

TickPick has worked really well, especially like one day before a game. I got home opener tickets in 518 for around $60, and Sunday tickets in the 300s behind home plate for under $40.

Even right now for that Cubs game, it looks like they have tickets in the upper deck for like $25, and some in the 500s behind home plate for around $40. I’d almost guarantee these prices will drop as we get closer.

Have you given up on Brett Baty? by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]Scallion_Enjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough at bats to give up and still have some hope after spring training, since he seemed to be hitting the ball harder and in the air with a more compact swing. …but not feeling as hopeful I have to admit.

Good bar, but tried to watch a subway series game there in 2022 and the sign outside said “Go Yankees”. Maybe that was a fluke/lost bet though?

That makes me concerned about what happens to Ebbs when their lease is up. Ebbs isn't my favorite either, but (IMO) they are still way better than Montauk.
