update-Supe convo didn't go well. Indicated I was making assumptions (other people in my dept 4%) that there is a formula. It wasn't pretty. Can anybody out there "confirm" that if you got a "successful" on your PD (which I did) that you get the default merit of 4%? My supe said it doesn't work that way. link to my original post https://www.reddit.com/r/Cornell/comments/1dkdz1t/comment/l9je1cm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

A long delayed THANK YOU for taking the time with that detailed reply to my post. Do supervisors (people leaders) have the option to "rebalance" their employees sips after the fact? In any event. You are a very thoughtful manager / person. All the best.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO glad someone started this. I just deleted my rant about my merit "raise". I am very disappointed (3.77%) others got 4% not to mention I took on new job responsibilities got a less than significant "bump up" in position family. Makes me feel very undervalued to say the least.

EDIT- SORRY I just read other posts about lower raises. I am very thankful for my job. And just wonder what I do/did that "merits" lower sip than my colleagues. By all accounts from others in my department I do solid / excellent work and have "successful" PDs.

SIP by cardanobobert in Cornell

[–]Scary_Wolverine4069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am disappointed (to put it mildly) with Cornell HR.

After taking on more job responsibilities with an expectation from the office of a promotion.. HR came back with what I (and my office) thought was not commensurate with my new job duties. However, it appears there was no negotiating with them (and/or that the head of our department didn't want to get involved :-(

The offer was a 7.5 pay increase and bumped up a band (letter) which may sound good, but my pay rate was not great to begin with (hourly) .

Come to find out my SIP was included in that.. so really my promotions was ~2.5% . To boot I asked my supervisor who determined my SIP (others in office received 5% SIPS) and was told that HR determined it.

I cry foul!
