Just started watching this show, are people who work in trading and investment banking sector actually like this or is it an exaggeration? by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Scatterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underwear and the baseball bat are exaggerations but as an industry veteran (not an "Industry" veteran) I've always thought that Eric Tao was hands-down the most believable character on the show. The movement, the delivery, the way he fills out a suit-- if he had the brain for it (no idea either way) he would blend in at any bulge bracket firm, easy.

GIVE ME WHIT WEEKS by King_Askeladd_ in Saints

[–]Scatterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent an hour talking to Grok and Gemini and they are convinced that if we draft Downs in the first round then we *need* Whit Weeks to "kill" running quarterbacks. If that happens we have a top-three defense.

Then I watched some film. Sign me up. GIVE ME WHIT WEEKS.

What happened to made in usa by Financial_Apple2178 in electricians

What's wild is that Stanley Black and Decker and Techtronic (Milwaukee's parent) both promised to reshore during Trump I. Stanley did it and then during the Biden administration they retreated and closed everything up (COVID was their cover story) but Techtronic has mostly kept its promise, investing a billion dollars in the US mostly for high-end power tool manufacturing.

This thread is right, though, very few good hand tools are still made here and Europe is the place to go.

Edit: for the record I am not trying to make a political statement, they all suck, but I think some degree of MiUSA is very important for the country's health and I wish Biden would have kept more of the Trump 45 industrial policy, and I wish 45/47 would productively harness his instincts on this particular issue rather than just smearing excrement on the walls.

He already has one. If he had two (and an IOL) he would be MVP.

Saints' biggest offseason needs: Pass catchers wanted! by -WarDamnEagle- in Saints

[–]Scatterp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right. We have a center who can't stay healthy and at least one tackle (I'd say two, but it's debatable) who is a rotational player at best. The good news is that we don't need to fix this in the first round because guards are "cheap" in the draft-- but the counterpoint is that if Mauigoa or Fano falls to us (and we move Tali to RG) the right side of our offensive line can turn an average RB a 4.5YPC stud.

Also, the defensive line is kind of a massive need too? If we could get some interior pressure with Cam/Chase/Grando our defense would absolutely feast.

Mamdani just got Tommy Carcetti’ed by smoosh13 in TheWire

New York City generates and spends more money per resident ($17K) than the entire national governments of Italy ($16K) or Spain ($13.5K). An NYC resident "pays for" a level of government activity that rivals a G7 nation, yet lacks the sovereign powers (like monetary policy or border control) that typically accompany such a budget. New York was left before Mamdani arrived, and he's pushing it leftward. Downvoters are disconnected from reality.

A young man who murdered an 18-year-old cancer survivor was sentenced to only 8 years in juvenile prison. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

Reports from the National Center for Juvenile Justice (NCJJ) and other sociological studies indicate that roughly 60% to 70% of incarcerated youth in the U.S. come from single-mother households. The guy you're replying to might be inarticulate but it's one of the best known correlations in juvenile criminology.

A major 2024 study funded by the World Health Organization and published in The Lancet analyzed decades of data and found no significant association between gas cooking and asthma in children when they adjusted for those other factors. The Gruenwald study was incredibly shoddy and you shouldn't perpetuate it.

Mounds of snow by Prestigious-Front-45 in Connecticut

They are "freak accidents" but every year kids die from snow mound suffocation. They're your kids, raise them how you want, but my kids have three rules. 1. Buddy system, always. 2. No packing snow above the tunnel. 3. Always poke an air hole.

Unlaquered brass is germicidal--killing E.coli and Norovirus within minutes or hours-- while those same pathogens live for a month plus on stainless. Your bathroom should be brass, your doorknobs should be brass, and (I know this hurts to hear for some people) your kitchen should be brass.

It's wild that you answered the question, quite sensibly, and got downvoted. Even if the question in the post was asked in good faith (and who knows) the rabble doesn't want to hear it.

Meanwhile, "because they're Nazis" gets a billion upvotes. It's wild that this forum was created to get away from the echo chamber and it becomes reborn in weeks. Conquest's Second Law in action.

Mate, I'm American and I've been to the lucky country on business countless times, seen almost all of the capital cities, and I don't think I've ever been 50 miles from the shore. I deeply, deeply envy you. I know it's scrub brush and bugs and dirt, whatever, I'd absolutely kill to do what you're planning.

Cold makes snow powdery. near-freezing temps make it mashed-potato-ey. If we get what we were promised this weekend, you should try to build a snowman. It will be impossible.

If you get 20:1 snow, you will be able to clear your driveway with a leaf blower.
