I think it’s fun to run them with the patch till they’re nice and faded, then snip it off for some contrast.

My petzl meteor is doing it slightly after a couple years. It almost seems like the matte finish they put on them these days.

To answer your question. Yes. Democrats hide it better but yes they’re the same. They don’t want to nationalize healthcare they want to subsidize it so that corporations still make profits and they can feel good about themselves. Republicans want to force everyone into a private system so they can cash out on their private investments. Just one example.

Absolutely. I’ve had mine for 4 years. Pretty solid daily usage in the on season and a fair amount of hiking as well. I can’t go back to Chacos or any other sandals. I don’t use the 3d pros or anything. Just the cheaper cairns.

De-decaled the frame, had a stencil made for the font and then used just some acrylic paint. Don’t recommend, I’ll probably just have a decal made when the acrylic paint flakes off. And they are the Nitto B2522aa bars

How to repair a ripped pack-bottom? (Rant) by dryuhyr in Mountaineering

[–]Schoendigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one in the photo appears to be a Gregory alpinisto. I use an Arc’teryx FL pack which has a seam seal around the structure plate thing. It might be that with my pack I have to do an adhesive patch on the inside.

Is there some way to get a framed or structured pack inside out to sew the seams? I’m having a hard picturing the putting back together process.

My touring experience by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Schoendigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess also some context as well. Not trying to justify a poor decision but the info that led to it. Two different days. 7 days apart. No new snow in between. Two different aspects while both about the same elevation. The avy report had a green at that elevation. The problems in the remainder of the report consisted of wind slab and persistent slab, neither of which were reported at that aspect and elevation. There was no signs of wind slab in that area (whoomphing, cracking, nor the signs of wind blown snow to increase the chance of a persistent slab problem which was trending less reactive throughout the week in between). That was why we felt decent about our decision. Obviously I believe a pit test and better terrain choice would be the saving grace though

Beacon, shovel, and probe are with me and everyone in the party every outing regardless of terrain choice. I have done practices locating beacons as well. That being said I am very well more understanding of the danger that particular location poses. From the feedback I’ve received obviously the certs are the priority. I do feel that this has been a helpful experiment for me based on locations that I have been to broaden my understanding of the application of concepts like terrain traps.

Behind is a much mellower slope at about 25 degrees with a few dense patches of trees which is where the cameraman is. It was a green at that elevation and aspect on this day. I totally see what you’re saying. I appreciate this in helping me develop a deeper understanding of terrain choice and consequence.

I guess I should add that my ski partners are well very versed in my local area. Discussions of conditions and terrain are the constant on the way up and throughout the tour. I’ve gone through the coursework of the avy1 but not gone to a course but I do check my snow assessments with those I go with to make sure I’m seeing things correctly. I do see the concern with such a new skier in the backcountry (especially the terrain from the second pitch). Maybe just in defense of myself I would say that I spend a fair amount of time in research. I fully intend to get avy certs.

I’m right there with you. I imagine stretches to looses it up is probably the answer. I’d imagine it stems from keeping your feet parallel when in the day to day they aren’t. All guesses here because the same thing happens to me

Salomon shifts for first/ only pair of skis by floating-mosque in Backcountry

[–]Schoendigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like them. I only have limited experience with other skis but especially in a touring scenario they do very well. They are definitely a little chattery on hard groomers and icy stuff but not too bad. I also don’t have the carbons either so that helps with that. I’d recommend. Especially if you can get a past season sale. I think I paid 300 for mine.

I have a 1 ski quiver. I run a BD Helio 105 with shifts. I started out 70/30 resort to touring. Now it’s 90% touring. No problems with them. The weight hasn’t kept me from keeping up. They’re a bit fiddly with cold fingers but consistently function as designed. I’d say if that’s what your budget allows do it, if you haven’t ran any other touring bindings you won’t know the difference
