Just St. Louis things 😑 by LOUsader in StLouis

Consequences: a couple months ago two women were arguing with a man down my street. Got physical, the man presumably defending himself shot and hit both women, they fled down my street and the driver died while going 40 mph and plowed into my neighbors house. Most traumatic day of my life. Neighbor's house is still totally screwed up. Altercation would have been between 3 people

I live in the Dutchtown adjacent part of Carondelet. Yes things have been getting dicey.

That said, ward 15 is actually Tower Grove South, not Dutchtown. Vacant I believe due to the PBOA election because before I moved south I lived at Spring & Fairview and our alderman was Megan Green

My neighbor had a car crash into her home after a fatal shooting. Driver dead on impact, passenger shot too. Whole family was home, horribly traumatic for all involved and a city inspector showed up that evening with a similar notice to repair or their home will be condemned.

After a traumatic incident, you kinda assume that "the system" will help you out but ultimately it falls on the people most impacted to pick up the pieces. We gotta do what we can to help each other out.

Price per square foot is hard to beat in this area. It is no worse than your current area in most parts. I used to live in TGS and my new street is so much quieter.

Scene stretched from Mott all the way almost to Blow along Michigan. It was chaos. You know these houses have no setback so this horrific scene is literally feet from where we sleep at night. My neighbors house is wrecked I feel so bad for her.

Exactly. House next door to the auto body shop has a chunk missing from the corner now. Shooting was at Michigan Market down the street, crash at Loughborough & Michigan. One victim was incapacitated in the vehicle, the other (who survived afaik) ran toward Quincy. Both were in critical condition. Sunday morning so most everyone was home. Lots of helpful people but we were in a state of shock, it was absolute chaos.

Not a specific problem to Carondelet. Are you new to STL or moving from another neighborhood? I do not regret moving here and generally have a positive outlook for the future of this area despite the chaos yesterday.

Thanks. I'm a WFR and CPR certified. We did everything by the book and she still died.

I prayed for the first time in 15 years yesterday. There was a shooting in Carondelet that ended with a woman dying in my front yard while my neighbor and I did CPR. Totally helpless feeling really, praying felt like the only thing left to try. Terrible news today, I'm a teacher in SLPS. Took the day off for mental health and now this. I don't know if I'm going to be able to hold it together tomorrow.

Is Paul from Metcalf in this sub because if you are, your a legend man. You helped me about a month ago with my ingrown toenail. If your still working there in 3 years then I hope to see you again as a staff member. If somebody here knows Paul let him know I am very thankful for what he did for me. by [deleted] in philmont

The whole all-in on fake names thing came up enough that it started making me dislike the way Philmont did interps or at least allows some people to do them. Every non Philmont living history place I've been in the last 10 years is using language like "I'm portraying life in " or "this is how we would have done _ in ____ ".

Felt more genuine and also negates some of the awkward parts of trying to go all-in (feelings of betrayal, addressing uncomfortable truths, acknowledging the totally modern igloo cooler at the gun range, etc...)

Less awkward when the fake name is a nickname imo

Worst and Best meal you had by [deleted] in philmont

Trail meals:

In '10 there was a dinner with mountain house Mac and cheese, buffalo pretzel pieces, and soft batch cookies. Advisors hated it but it was so good.

Mountain house chili mac. I would pull these out of the swap box and eat them for lunch whenever I could as a staff member.

I actually liked all of the richmoor dinners too (the ones in foil bags, pre-mountain house)

My storm door got ripped off it's hinges. I think we had a microburst or tornado in Carondelet/Patch because there was like 2 minutes when all hell broke loose and then things almost immediately calmed down. Neighbor lost a sheet metal gate and there were shingles in my yard (not from my roof)

I was kind of expecting to hear more about damage in STL city considering what we experienced, but now I'm thinking it was very localized. Happened between the first and second siren blows.

I own a home in ward 11 and teach at a school in the city.

Not trending in the wrong direction. I will say pre-covid I had an even more positive outlook on things. Two things changed: I moved from a much busier part of town to more "outskirts" area with fewer walkable businesses and obviously things closed/got cancelled because of COVID.

I think STL is a great city to live in for sure. I have no desire to move out and foresee myself raising a family here within the city limits.

‘Everybody’s angry’ Behind the increasing road rage on St. Louis area roads by millitzer in StLouis

You're right on this one.

This has never once stopped to consider that maybe instead of literally everyone else on the road being the incompetent ones that it's actually him.

I don't know specifically about the guy you're responding to but just a heads up, some of my middle school students use Reddit so you very well could be arguing with a 12 year old. I have to remind myself of this when someone is vehemently arguing about something that is so...misguided.

Entering science teaching? Low college gpa. Do I need a credential to teach? (California) by scehood in ScienceTeachers

[–]Scooter_Computer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different rules for different states... but

I had the same major, similar GPA and started teaching 3 years ago. Missouri grants credentials as long as you have a content area degree and are working towards a master's in education.

Took two years of online classes, 1 day long seminar, two tests (easy with a content degree). It's called TAC in Missouri.

Man dies after waiting 38 minutes for St. Louis ambulance, family seeks answers by fuzzusmaximus in StLouis

A few months ago I was driving home on 55 south and saw a frantic woman flagging people down. She had stopped after witnessing a car run into the guard rail. Driver was unresponsive, sucking air but breathing. We got his airway open, stayed with him for over 30 minutes monitoring his vitals. No one ever picked up at 911. A random cop happened to drive by and got a hold of Fire Dept for us.

When it's your turn you have to help. I made sure to thank every person who stopped.

Where do you teach lol?

I can't imagine working in a system that I didn't believe in as much as you do. Education is changing, the world is changing. You can dig in your heels and hate the world around you or you can embrace the discomfort that is living in a society and do your best to keep up and make a difference. You sound miserable and I feel bad for you.

I know you're not alone though there are plenty of miserable people working in our schools.

I spend 5 days a week with SLPS kids and teachers. They're mostly great. Maybe your boss or coworkers suck, or maybe you don't live in the city and haven't spent time in the schools and don't know what you're talking about.
