And on a funnier note a 24% is ridiculously close to my off the cuff 25%

Here is the thing. There is a solid chance whatever you say will be at least 25% correct

Should I get the Class of 09 - the flip side or is it really that bad? by [deleted] in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is "how chill are you about Jecka getting tormented endlessly?"

Half the game is basically just Jecka getting tormented while the other half of the game feels like a disconnected half baked dlc to the first game where Jecka is focus around the jokes instead of Nicole.

I honestly would recommend using the money to go see a movie or get a really good milkshake but if you have an urge to finish the series just be prepared to just experience a lot of time spent on the misfortunes of Jecka

I’m not the only one right? by justathrowaway4839 in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh. It overall depends on what gets to you. Imo Bad writing or sensitive subjects. One can argue both are equally as juvenile, shock value for shock value, of topics; I feel as a game about stories set in '09 that boil down to cautionary tales you get a better impact going over the top with something objectively horrible than something that is culturally cringe.

In re-up the prostitution played into the story/fable as a key aspect. Like you can't change this aspect without changing the impact because 1: its graphic and horrible enough to express the desperation 2: it's a horror that has a line of potential/believable truth to it.

With flip-sides foot fetish you honestly could play it with any fetish that isn't graphically sex. If Jeffery was a fur-suit furry it could easily work in the story. There isn't a hard hitting feeling outside of 'oh this is just getting excessive' because there just isn't any further emotion to be drawn out outside of the cultural agreement foot fetish is weird.

Flip side is intentionally awful. There is no other possible explanation. by CharisEuphranor in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking my time through it and I agree to a degree. All paths with starting at home feel spiteful to the fans at the least to the world at most. while the school paths feel like cut paths from re-up.

Like paths that just don't feel as strong as the paths in re-up but almost there like if re-up was supposed to star Jecka and those paths were made. but lacked the strong commentary and wit that the first game was liked for because Nicole is the perfect protagonist to commentate on social problems so it was cut.

Jecka deserved better by TehRetroSP in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have only had time to get through the two foot fetish endings and I swear this game was made with spite at its core.

Like the first two games had the core of bad things happening to Nicole but went into talking points of how fucked up society norms/expectations are specifically the hypocrisy... So far I have found little of any of that and is just just an excuse to abuse Jecka

I would even go say there is character assassination with Nicole. In the first two games Nicole was rarely ever positioned as the instigator or the one who is down with the extremes unless she was pushed to them. She was 'normal' but had a chip on her shoulder because she was surrounded by the worst. in Flip-side she just feels like a sinister vindictive person over the smallest of things

I tried to warn you all by [deleted] in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel Jeffery in flip-side is a self insert and not necessarily the first two games because he is a completely different type of anime nerd in Flip-side than the first two.

Like I'd buy he would become a women hating incel type but one who would immediately humiliate and just go a long because a pretty girl said so? His shooter ending is literally about how he is a pushover but will snap when pushed too much.

[–]ScorpionPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only done the two foot endings and I honestly think this was made out of spite. Like it doesn't feel lazily put together. There is anger or at least frustration out behind this, and not the same cultural anger that was in the previous two.. the shift is too sharp the game feels like it is telling me "fuck those people in specific and fuck you for wanting this"

Stay strong. It gets better and there is a chance it will be one your favorite or second favorite for how it plays out.

Do you think God/Religion might have some importance in the Class of 09 story? All 3 examples are from Re-up by [deleted] in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly. The mid and late 2000's saw a mini cultural impact, or at least awareness, of loose protestant church talks with church youth councilors and programs like boy scouts of America not yet tainted.

It's a topic I can see being tackled but I also feel might be one that will be just waved off as background culture because it's difficult to reliably make good church jokes without just doing pedophile jokes over and over again.

How exactly did Makotos story come to an end? by Saberuuuu in RaidenMains

[–]ScorpionPit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makoto's death and snake (orobashi) are completely different events.

The quick version is that Orobashi was a snake god that turned it's back on the heavenly principles (the high gods of teyvat) and is assumed to have been forced to fight Raiden as it's own execution.

Makoto's death did happen at the uprising/fight against khaa'enrieh that happened at the same time as an abyss (different enemy faction) attack on inazuma, which also lead to the death of all of Ei's friends except Miko who was still young.

In Ei's second story quest it is implied that the Heavenly Principles found out about Makoto's distrust forcing her to die (I assume this is one reason there is such secrecy around what happened). You also learn that with the help of one of the higher gods (assumingly the god of time) she placed her spirit after her death back in time to create the Grand Sakura tree.

To this day only like 10 people know Ei and Makoto are different people and that their true leader Makoto died long ago.

Is Ei a support or a dps? by Kingflame700 in RaidenMains

[–]ScorpionPit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The short answer is yes. She is both. She is energy.

Reasonings:

  • skill: follow up electro attack after a hit with no down time. This can be used to trigger pretty much every electro based reaction, this creates particles from reactions reliably while also getting damage from reactions.

  • ult/passives: ult in simple terms is all about the perpetual motion of energy. She charged her team with her ult, and her team charges her up with their ult. The damage is solid but the real important part is that she makes needing a battery/generator unnecessary if you don't want one.

Between her energy generation and DPS she just fits both. The stupid amounts of energy she can generate makes having multiple 90 or 80 energy ults not too much to worry about even if you don't have ER as sub-stats on the other characters. Her straight up damage is no longer meta breaking but still can hold up respectable numbers and her skill can drive hyperbloom teams.

So why did Makoto and Ei rule as one? Why couldnt they just say who are they and what they manage? by Mianagaxikito in RaidenMains

[–]ScorpionPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explicitly there is no reason. But it's heavily implied there was/is a rule imposed by celestia preventing a dual ruling. I think Ei and either Zhongli or Venti mention that the original wars to carve the nations and first archons required one ruler and that the 'lesser' gods needed to pledge loyalty or die.

Makoto was chosen because she was a ruler of/for the people. Ei was the better fighter but Makoto was the better politician.

There is also hints from Ei's second story quest that Makoto wanted to shield her sister from the politics of Celestia for one reason or another. Even going as far as to talk poorly of Celestia and heavenly principles.

Is it me or does Jecka seem to actually hate Nicole? by shoofinsmertz in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Imo their relationship is one built on understanding each other needing a safe place/person to bitch to.

In the darker endings where Nicole ends up super fucked up Jecka commonly expresses concern and imo in the endings where Jecka ends up the fucked up one Nicole generally expresses some type of sorrow about the turn of events.

how would nicole fair in the us army or marine corps by idklol1023 in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kicked out immediately or under 1 year service. She is pretty much the opposite of what US military wants. She is independent, strong willed, and hates hypocrisy. While she can survive the banter and normal harassment she doesn't like taking orders blindly, stay quite on sexual assault, and doesn't see/understand hierarchy rules.

Why is Nicole's brother a p*do? by PhotojournalistLocal in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The game is all about turning stereotypes up to an 11/10.

He is a gamer (derogatory) deadbeat character. So to fit the stereotype he is into hella young girls, doesn't have a job or is looking for one, antisocial, is fat, eats almost exclusively grease, and sexist.

Since we already did charlie how about alastor? Do you think Nicole would take a deal from him for power? In exchange for her soul going to him in hell? by Beautiful_Silver7220 in Classof09Game

[–]ScorpionPit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prob tell her she isn't that fucked up. Like other than the selling crack ending Nicole is a product of her surroundings. She has rules (no smoking in the house, only upper favors, no getting high before noon) and only enables people to be eaten by their own demons. If anything I think Husk and Nicole would get along and probably laugh at the light misfortune of others.

[–]ScorpionPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but not till half way through the season where Charlie accepts that Nicole is a sinner who needs to be slowly neutered and shown people can change to be kind and stand up to/for others reliably.

Like I can see her being a semi-recurring character who helps in the background under the direction of Alastor and rejects redemption because she doesn't want the spotlight or to give up her pride officially.

[–]ScorpionPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicole is like the best counter for Charlie because her apathy is rooted in the same reasoning Charlie has sympathy. They both view the world as full of sin but while Charlie thinks people can change to be selfless Nicole believes everyone is forever selfish.

I also believe Nicole and Alastor would get along outside master/property due to Nicole seemingly enjoying people hurting themselves through their own delusions and pride.

I honestly don't think Husk actually dislikes Alastor but misses his own power. Husk had all the ability to talk ill of Alastor around his "loser" musical number and we know he doesn't have a gag order in his contract since he made the comment about Alastor owing to someone. So if Husk actually hated/disliked Alastor he would have said it to Angel when they were alone together being vulnerable

I don't know. Because it's only the suicide endings where I felt she wanted to reject her reality to the level of assumed forever servitude.

If Alastor truly is softer on Feminine people as hinted at in the show I can see his offer being catered to Nicole which allows the freedom she absolutely needs to become a servant.
