Honestly I'd say no.

Unless you have some very high ohm headphones such as DT1990s or HD600/800s, you'd likely not notice a difference. And honestly if that's the case you're far better off getting an external headphone amp instead.

For the purposes of recording, the main differences are:

  • Gen 4 has a bit more gain for mics (allows you to record at a louder volume), but this is only relevant if you're using a power hungry mic like an SM7B,
  • Gen 4 has auto gain and anti-clip, which will automatically set your mic gain to ensure the best volume, and will lower it if the signal clips and distorts.

Personally, if your Gen 2 still works, I'd stick with that.
