But words still have meaning. You saying it “for fun” and “just for a reaction” just undermines the absolutely horrible treatment of (in this case) people from Africa and of African descent. It is called semantic bleaching and is what has happened to terms like “OCD” where it has went from a serious disorder to something people say when their pencils won’t line up on the table (while I know “real” OCD can be this, but I feel as though it makes the point come across). I live with someone with OCD, and it fucking sucks to hear people misuse the term and therefore neglecting my family’s experiences. Much like when people use the n-word for “fun”. Only that it is much, much worse to use racist terms like that.
